RF Preselector: New tiny SCR Preselector 1.8MHz to 30MHz Tunable Band Pass Filter Assembled and kit versions. – tiny SCR Preselector (SCR) Software Controlled Radio via USB or I2C Bus (16 bits standard I2C serial bus interface) Made by Heros Technology Ltd in the United Kingdom.
It can be looped between RX OUT and RX IN of the HF Trancseiver, or SDR Receiver. – A large toroid core T-200-7 is used, the large core offers a non-loaded Q (efficiency) value. A five bands tuneable Band-Pass Filter bank make up the core of the tiny SCR Preselector, and five telecom grade relays for band switching are connected to its corresponding section of the coil through the Band Selector control on the program software

See the Links and following image – Preselector or not? Icom Digisel, Yaesu VRF ….

tiny SCR Preselector - Available bands: • A) 1.8 MHz to 3 MHz • B) 3 MHz to 5.5MHz • C) 5 MHz to 10 MHz • D) 10.5 MHz to 21 MHz E) • 16 MHz to 30 MHz. -
A carefully PCB layout design and strong L/C decoupling prevent stages to couple in to each other improving the stop band response and filtering noise from control lines. – The program performs the task of adding or subtracting capacitor values in binary fashion in direct relationship with the tuning control on the program software. Increments or decrements are done in steps of 1pF. – The USB Control Unit is located in a separate module board to avoid introducing noise generated by the microprocessor itself and the noisy USB bus. – The (GUI) software: CD ROM including all software and USB driver for Windows Operate System

It has a -6 dB BW of 500 kHz at a centre frequency of 14.1 MHz Ham Band!
IC-7700 DIGI-SEL Insertion Gain & Bandwidth? there is a interesting test on VA7OJ’s website

RF Preselector or not?
[Note-1] The outboard tiny SCR Preselector is single-pole, is similar to Icom DIGISEL Preselector or Yaesu VRF Preselector, and have a -6 dB BW of 500 kHz at a centre frequency. These types of preselector (single-pole) provide outstanding protection against OUT-OF-BAND interference, with a bandwidth much narrowe than the standard RF BPF UNIT “fixed bandpass filter networh” – Adding the single-pole preselector can be particulary useful if your station is located near a broadcast station, or if you use Dual Receive a lot in a “multi-trasmitter environment”

[Note-2] Tuned 4-pole preselectors type, typically with motorised air-variable capacitors and air-wound inductors to avoid saturation IMD, have been used in RN shipboard HF installations for yonks, long before the advent of DSP! – See the image HARRIS RF-551A
The Yaesu FT DX 5000 Series will be formally introduced by Yaesu very soon. Pricing and availability is currently unknown (www.radiocronache…23.11.2009)

!!! FTdx-5000 by Yaesu Broshure: 14 MHz band 2kHz offset 105 dB 3rd-IMD, IP3 +36 dBm, way better than the Elecraft K3 @ 102 dB IP3 +26 dBm!

The FTdx-5000 (Main Receiver only) includes a rather traditional 1st IF 9 MHz (Elecraft K3 1st IF 8,215 MHz) and provides for selectable roofing filters (6-pole crystal) at the first IF to limit the off-frequency signals getting into the receiver.
Note that the roofing filter’s job is only to protect the rest of the receiver, and that the operating bandwidth filtering is performed by the IF DSP (like Elecraft K3 Transceiver).

Icom Major points of the Ver.1.11 update: Improvements in the TX monitor audio level.

[Note] The output of the monitor demod is fed into the main receiver audio amplifier, whose gain is controlled by the AF Gain control. The AF Gain pot is the “master fader”. All Icom transceivers equipped with a monitor circuit are configured in this way……

The IC-7700 firmware upgrade. There is a full instructions of the Updating on p. 16-2 to 16-9 of the User Manual (Section 16 Updating The Firmware), Two methods of firmware update are available: one uses the USB-Memory (USB port and Memory Drive is required), and the other uses a PC (Ethernet cable is required and IP address) – The USB-Memory must have been formatted by the IC-7700 transceiver (FAT/FAT32 formats).
The general rule with FAT vs. FAT32 is this: If your computer has FAT32 capability, use that. Otherwise, use FAT. – There is a full description of the USB memory formatting procedure on p. 12-26 of the User Manual (Section 12 Set Mode – Formatting the USB-Memory)

The new FTM-350 GPS/APRS Yaesu’s answer to the Kenwood TM-D710. Standard FTM-350 upgrades the FTM-10 to add packet radio and GPS/APRS capabilities and very large LCD with a radical change of style! Recalls the style of competitors Kenwood TM-D710 and Icom IC-2820. Now the functions of the controls are on the edge of the LCD…….

Standard/Yaesu, with the VX-8R writes: ” A Technology Breakthrough”
This new product Yaesu should bring a welcome competition for the radio APRS by Kenwood.

The FTM-350 and FTM-350H, can operate real Dual Ham Band Operation V+V/U+U/V+U, while listening to AM/FM Broadcasts. The new Yaesu rig control head rear panel showing dual speakers. Charging clip for handsfree headset. A very large LCD backlit display, possible 8 front panel colors.

Ham-Fair in Tokyo 22 23 August, 2009 Kenwood news – [Note] The-depiction-is-not-official-document- !

Ham-Fair in Tokyo 22 23 August, 2009: KENWOOD has a plan to release new handy transceiver & compact HF+6m transceiver on 2010. Kenwood’s video introduing a new HF transceiver and Handheld talkie available 2010! —- See the Link and new Front Panel (big images) below!

Our best info about Kenwood’s HF radio plans is that next year (probably at Dayton 2010) they will bring out a new Mid-priced radio (abaut 2000€) that replaces the TS-570 series, at which time they will start designing a new flag-ship, High-end HF +6m radio (abaut 4000/5000€) that could come out as early as 2011….

The new HF+6 m Transceiver should incorporate the latest advancements in HF radio design from Kenwood, who returns to challenge the market with this transcever, developed from the previous TS-570D(G) units. The latest rumors (in view of the mysterious way of proceeding to Kenwood!) indicate these strengths: a Mid-class transceiver with new operator-engineered features. New menu to user feature. New IF DSP with selection of Hi/Low cut DSP slope tune and VBT (Variable Band Tuning) that alters passband width, for rejection of nearby signals. The front panel will have a new design with new style for the knobs and buttons.

Amateurs will eventually migrate to digital for VHF/UHF repeaters. Will D-STAR be forever? Probably not, but it is the leading solution right now. The move to digital only makes sense, its more spectrum efficient and you can offer a lot more services on a ‘channel’ than you can with analog. I imagine that at some point, not soon, the ratio of digital VHF/UHF operations to analog FM will be similar to the ratio of SSB to AM transmissions on HF!!

Buy Ham Radio Equipment!
At first it might seem difficult to buy ham radio gear but it’s not really. Buying ham radio equipment doesn’t have to be that much of a mine field. Keep checking for the best prices. Watching the various discounted prices in Friedrichshafen hamfair 2009. Prices are similar or even lower, it seems that you can now also obtain directly from various sellers.
