WiNRADiO © declares that the  new WR-G31DDC Excalibur receiver’s robust front-end (ndr: no preselectors filters!) is equipped with an ultrahigh-linearity amplifier which result in exceptional strong-signal performance. An advanced “dithering” technique eliminates spurios signals without significantly increasing the receiver’s nois floor. The superior 16-bit 100 MSPS analog-to-digital converter (ADC) provides exceptional performance over an extremely wide range of signals. Frequency range 9 kHz to 49.995 MHz three indipendent channels can be set separately.

Excalibur did not Preselector filters in the RF imput, has only (MW filter) a high pass for medium wave. Excalibur sample at 100 MHz (MSPS), but what really happens tuning signals around the frequency of “Nyquist” (100 : 2 = 50MHz) – [Note]: The figures SFDR (Spurious-Free Dynamic Range) declared by the producer is still about 107 dB. La WiNRADIO © Sezione commerciale della RADIXON Group Pty. Ltd (Australia), indica che il nuovo WR-G31DDC Excalibur ha robusti front-end (ndr: però non ha filtri di preselezione) per i ricevitori ed è dotato di un amplificatore ad altissima linearità che da luogo a ottime prestazioni anche su forti segnali. L’impiego di una tecnica avanzata di “dithering” viene utilizzata per eliminare i segnali spuri, senza aumentare significativamente il nois floor dei ricevitori (sensibilità MDS). – L’utilizzo di un Convertitore Analogico-Digitale (ADC) a 16-bit con 100 MSPS (Milioni di Campinamento Per Secondo) offre ottime prestazioni in una gamma di segnali molto ampia. La copertura di frequenza va da 9 kHz a 49.995 MHz e con tre indipendenti canali di ricezione simultanea settabili indipendentemente e rappresentati in grafica sulla GUI.

E disponibile tutta la banda di 2 MHz in DDC (in conversione digitale diretta) sia per le operazioni di registrazione che per la sua demodulazione. – Sono disponibili tre demodulatori per consentire la ricezione simultanea di tre frequenze di segnale all’interno della larghezza di banda di 2 MHz (banda in uscita selezionabile in 21 steps di banda  con larghezza variabile da da 20 kHz a 2 MHz e sintonia fine con risoluzione di 1 Hz) -
Excalibur non ha filtri di preselezione all’ingresso, dispone solo di (MW filter) un passa-alto per le onde medie. Per forti segnali interferenti si dovrebbe introdurre attenuazione, riducendo anche la sensibilità del ricevitore. – Excalibur campiona a 100 MHz (MSPS), ma realmente cosa avviene sintonizzando segnali attorno alla frequenza di “Nyquist” (metà della frequenza di campionamento = 50 MHz) quando tutti i segnali al di sopra di essa si ribaltano simmetricamente sulle frequenze inferiori!? – [Nota]: Il valore di SFDR (Spurious-Free Dinamic Range) dichiarato dal produttore risulta comunque di 107 dB. L’Image rejection dichiarata è di 90 dB typ, con un MDS (Minimo Segnale Discernibile) di -130 dBm @ 10 MHz e 500 Hz di BW.

Il software di Excalibur sembrerebbe ancora molto convenzionale nel settore Signal Processing. Allo stato non figurano notch adattivi, non filtri CW peak, si nota un solo noise blanker (contro i tre di Perseus) anche se può ricevere su tre canali in contemporanea e decodifiche il DRM ed altri modi digitali da integrare, come opzional a pagamento, direttamente nel software di controllo.

Coming-soon — (a breve) il GEMINI SDR HF/VHF  Dual Channel SDR  at 200 MSPS !! Nuovo prodotto della Italiana © Microtelecom Srl (by Nico IV3NWV ), dotato di ricevitore a doppio canale indipendente, in unico contenitore (210 x 80 x 190 mm) sempre a  conversione diretta come il Perseus, che non intende sostituire, infatti il suo range operativo va da 28 a 170 MHz. Ciascono dei due front-end RF sono filtrati da due preselettorei analogici in 6 banchi di frequenza. I segnali in ingresso sono simultaneamente processati numericamente con ADC a 200 MSPS/channel (200 Miliodi di Campionamenti Per Secondo!) I segnali ottenuti dalla conversione diretta ad alta velocita sono implementati con una FPGA di Xilinx’s della recentissima famiglia Spartan6. Ha un Generatore di clock con basso valore di Jitter (vedere più sopra l’immagine dei parametri Low-Jitter) per una Alta Gamma Dinamica fino alle VHF (compreso il relativo  valore dell’SFDR – Spurious-Free Dinamic Range)

Ricevitore per il monitoraggio delle bande HF e VHF, per rilevare la direzione dei segnali, ricevre segnali in diversità, per attività EME oppure per uso satellitare in doppia polarizzazione per sistemi di ricezione a canali sincroni, per array di fase, ad azzeramento del rumore. Attendiamo le prove!!

The 9MHz IF rejection on most bands was greater than 100dB, but on 10MHz it was only 54dB, and on 7MHz it was 74dB. VRF front-end tuning improved these figures by 20dB. The first mixer image was only down by 55dB to 70dB but VRF improved this to better than 75dB.
Spurs on the synthesiser resulted in a number of unwanted receiver responses, notably at approx +/- 425kHz from the received frequency at only 65dB down on the VFO-A rx and at +/- 40kHz down by 85dB. VRF improves these figures but only marginaly on the higher bands.
Third order intercept (IP3), dynamic range (IMD3) and blocking figures were outstanding with the appropriate Roofing filters selected (See the Table-1*). The VFO-B receiver dynamic range is nont quite as good as the VFO-A receiver but is still very respectable.

La rejezione IF a 9MHz per la maggior parte delle bande risulta superiore a 100dB, ma sulla banda dei 10MHz scende a soli 54dB, e sulla banda dei 7MHz risulta 74dB.- L’uso del VRF tuning del front-end migliora queste figure di circa 20dB. L’immagine del primo mixer risulta attenuata solo da 55 dB a 70 dB, ma con il VRF si ha un miglioramento al valore di 75dB. Le spurie del sintetizzatore produce una serie di risposte indesiderate al di sotto di soli 65dB  rispetto all frequenza  ricevuta,  in particolare a circa +/- 425kHz dal centro della frequenza  sul VFO-A (main rx), ed ancora a +/- 40kHz sono al di sotto di 85dB. L’inserimento del circuito VRF migliora queste cifre, però solo marginalmente sulle bande più alte di frequenza.
L’intercept point di terzo ordine (IP3), la gamma dinamica  IMD3 e la dinamica di blocco hanno valori che variano in base alla banda passante  del Roofing filter selezionato (Vedere Tabella-1*). Il ricevitore del VFO-B (sub rx) ha a sua volta una dinamica non altrettanto buona come il  ricevitore VFO-A (main rx), ma comunque è  molto rispettabile. – !! Emerge dall’articolo di Peter  Hart una questione che lo preoccupa:  la effettiva capacità di rejezione di segnali spuri del  ricevitore A.

The Kenwood “TS-590″ utilizes Kenwood’s proven 32 bit IF DP technology – Features selectable Roofing filters at 2.8 kHz, and 500 Hz on  1st IF – including down-conversion wtih the 1st IF at 11 MHz (like TenTec, Elecraft and Vertex Standard Yesu in the FTdx-5000 series), USB port, HF and 6M Antenna Jacks, Dual VFO Display, Automatic Tuner, etc. -

Kenwood has not yet announced final features, specifications, pricing or availability. The model number is tentative! – The June QST on the back cover is TS-590S seems to be a picture of. This back cover advertisement Kenwood is, first. – The Legend Continues and there TS-520, TS-570, TS-590S and is introduced from above. TS-590S on the front panel seems to be why do the characters TS-590 missing. – The Next Generation – Coming Soon and there.

Latest rumors: Size (WxHxD mm) 270x96x291 – TX Power 100W – High Dynaming range – IP3 +30dBm class at 2KHz separation – 32bit floating-point DSP – Sky Command – USB port for PC control and Sound inteface….?? — Wait for the official news updates Kenwood!!

Il nuovo “TS-590″ utilizza la tecnologia a 32 bit IF DSP della Kenwood, ha la possibilità di selezionare due Roofing filters da 2.8 kHz e 500 Hz BW nella 1st IF, comprende la conversione in basso nella prima IF a 11 MHz (come già fatto dalla Ten-Tec, dalla Elecraft ed da ultimo da Yaesu con la recente serie FTdx-5000), prevede una porta USB, due connettorri per HF e 6m, due VFO sul Display,  l’Accordatore automatico e altre features. La Kenwood non ha ancora rilasciato tutte le specifiche effettive, nè il prezzo. Il numero del modello per ora è un ipotesi “590″!

La rivista della ARRL QST di Giugno, 2010, sul retro della copertina, riporta la prima pubblicità per il TS-590, indicato come discendente del noto TS-520 del 1973, poi del TS-570D/S del 2000 e quindi la foto che dovrebbe essere del TS-590 perchè non riporta nel frontale tale sigla (in corso di conferma!). Questo annuncio di Kenwood USA sulla IV di copertina di QST mette in primo luogo: “La Leggenda Continua”, poi in grande: “The Next Generation – Coming Soon” – Aspettiamo !

The DSP IF filter shape factor (-6/-60 dB). This is the ratio of the -60 dB bandwidth to the -6 dB bandwidth, which is a figure of merit for the filter’s adjacent-channel’s rejection. The lower the shape factor, the “tighter” the filter. – The two type of DSP filter shape factor for each SSB, SSB-Data and CW can be selected independently from soft and sharp.
A sharp profile with a flat passband and soft profile with a more rounded passband (Twin Passband Tuning [TWIN-PBT] is also easily provided, which enables the filter sides to be both indipendently moved and narrowed, the DSP also provides audio filtering and shaping functions). Depending on  the operating situation, for example handling a pile-up or receiving a very weak signal, you can flexibly change sharp and soft filter shapes or reduce or shift the filter width, even while receiving a signal, by a simple push of a front panel key. CAUTION:  NEVER turn the transceiver power OFF while updating the firmware!
You can turn the transceiver power OFF only when the transceiver displays that rebooting is required. If you turn the transceiver power OFF, or if a power failure occurs during updating, the transceiver firmware will be corrupted and you will have to send the transceiver back to the nearest Icom distributor for repair.

Il fattore di forma del filtro IF DSP (-6/-60 dB). Questo “shape factor” è il rapporto tra la larghezza di banda a -60 dB e la larghezza di banda a -6 dB del filtro impostato, che determina la qualità di merito della reiezione del filtro stesso. Infatti più basso sarà il fattore di forma, più ripidi saranno i fianchi del filtro. – I due tipi del fattore di forma: linea morbida o tagliente del filtro DSP possono essere selezionati in modo indipendente per ciascun modo operativo SSB, SSB-Data e CW.
Si potrà usare un profilo tagliente (sharp) con una banda passante piatta oppure un profilo morbido (soft) con una banda passante più arrotondata ( E’ anche previsto il noto Twin Passband Tuning – [TWIN-PBT ] operando solo su due manopole concentriche, che consentono di spostare a piacere sia il centro del filtro sia la sua larghezza di banda in maniera flessibile e indipendente, poi lo stesso DSP fornisce anche il filtraggio audio e la sua sagomatura). A seconda della situazione di funzionamento, per esempio la gestione di un pile-up o la ricezione di un segnale molto debole, è possibile semplicemente impegare un  filtro tagliente (sharp) o uno morbido (soft), ovvero spostare o variare l’ampiezza del filtro IF, anche durante la ricezione del segnale, con una semplice pressione di tasti  ecomandi sul pannello frontale —- (Senza le selezioni multiple e sequenziali! passo-passo).

ATTENZIONE:  NON spegnere il ricetrasmettitore durante l’aggiornamento del firmware!
È possibile spegnere in OFF solo quando il display del transceiver visualizza che il riavvio è necessario. Se si spegne il transceiver, o se si verifica la mancanza di alimentazione durante l’aggiornamento, il firmware del ricetrasmettitore sarà danneggiato e si dovrà inviare l’apparato al distributore Icom per la riparazione

DMU-2000 Update Software, Yaesu has released 2.25.2010 – (DMU-2000 aggiornamento software)
This procedure is used to update the flash programming for the DMU-2000.
V4.21 or V5.11 version software is ONLY needed when the DMU-2000 is used with the New FTdx5000.  – There is no change from V4.20 or V5.10 when used with the FT-2000/D or FT-950.

FTdx-5000 – Receiver system (Tow Independent Receivers):

IC-7700 Receiver system (Single Receiver with Split mode capable and XFC):
- Double-conversion superheterodyne (1st IF up-conversion)
Intermediate frequencies:
- 1st 64.455MHz 2nd 36kHz (original image rejection I/Q 2nd mixer)
- 1st mixer element SD5400 applies a 16V peek to peek voltage LO signal
- IC-7700 has a total of 4 pre-amplifiers, two for the HF bands and two for the 50MHz
- Display. 7-inch wide color TFT LCD shows operating frequ. and various settings
- Real time Spectrum Scope, dedicated DSP unit, achieves 80dB of dynamic range
- Digital Twin PBT. The DSP-based digital IF  of the pass band
- Dual VFO’s with one-button Split Allows rapid switch-over to Split mode
- One-bytton XFC (TX frequency Check) Permits monitoring of trasmit frequency in Split
- Two USB ports (front panel), connect Keyboard or USB memory stick to save settings
- Built-in modulator and demodulator for RTTY and PSK31 modes.

The New ARRL Web Site Delayed to “Get it Right” – !! A new President for the ARRL, Kay Craigie N3KN.

After meeting with ARRL staff on February 23, two days before the new ARRL Web site was to launch, ARRL Chief  Operating Officer Harold Kramer, WJ1B, made the decision to delay the unveiling of the Web site until late March. – The current delay is necessary to assure that we have all of the data connections correct.

Il lancio del nuovo sito web della ARRL è stato ancora rinviato a fine Marzo 2010 per la supervisione finale dei tanti servizi online previsti. Dopo un incontro con lo staff della ARRL il 23 febbraio – due giorni prima della data prevista per l’apertura del nuovo sito Web – Harold Krame,WJ1B ARRL Chief Operating Officer, ha deciso di rinviare l’apertura del sito web a fine di Marzo prossimo.  See news and image below…

A New President for the ARRL at the January 2010 Board of Directors.
The ARRL Board electet Kay Craigie, N3KN as the new ARRL President to succeed Joe Harrison, W5ZN, and the first female Presidente in the history of the League.

N3KN, First licensed in 1983, Extra class since 1987. Operate phone, CW, and several digital modes.  Awards earned include DXCC on 8 bands, DXCC Challenge, 5BDXCC, Worked All Europe Class 1 (CW), WAZ, VUCC (6 meters, FN20 and EM97), 5BWAC, and WAS.- (Source Qrz.com)
