R&S® M3SR Series 4100 SDR HF Radio Family – Analog mixers and digital IF and audio signal processing

Rohde & Schwarz M3SR® Series 4100 of HF radios represents a new, innovative and versatile generation of software defined radios (SDR).

Rohde & Schwarz ha sviluppato una serie di apparati di nuova generazione per i sistemi di comunicazione professionali, tipiche applicazioni a bordo ni navi, per il controllo di traffico aereo, per ambasciate e per applicazioni tattiche militari. Da quanto si legge nella broshure la struttura della R&S® M3SR Series 4100, pur definita a ragione SDR, sembra andare ancora sul sicuro. Niente RF Sampling (ADC/FPGA), ma impiego combinato della collaudata tecnologia RF analogica (Analog Mixers), dove R&S® è eccellente da sempre, seguita  da una seconfa IF a 48 kHz che viene campionata, digitalizzata e processata con l’impiego dei recenti sistemi DSP numerici implementati R&S® all’interno del’apparato.  (Per esempio si potrebbe dire una struttura a due conversioni + IF DSP simile a quella del’ IC-7700 reiterata da Icom anche sul nuovo IC-7600! in arrivo)

ENG: The R&S® M3SR Series 4100 combines the unmatched dynamic range of radios with analog mixers with the latest in digital IF and audio signal processing. The second IF frequency of 48 kHz is sampled, digitized and processed using digital ignal processors. This means that a wide range of IF bandwidths is available in all modes with high selectivity and optimized for voice and data communications. Digital signal processing also provides functions for noise suppression. The individual radio lines can be occupied by any of the waveforms supported by the R&S®M3SR Series 4100   including:
Voice (SSB, AM, FM) – Radio teletype (RATT) – Modem (STANAG 4285, STANAG 4539) – Automatic link establishment (ALE-2G/3G) – Tactical data links(Link-11, Link-22)

FK4120/4140 è  un rimarchevole sistema di preselettore – optional plug-in modules -  con cinque circuiti LPF da 0 Hz a 1.5 MHz e poi digitally tracking bandpass filters da 1.5 MHz a 30 MHz con 20 dB o 40 dB edge steepness at 10 % frequency offset. Questo per accrescere la selettività dei canali sia in trasmissione che in ricezione. Si migliorano molto i parametri di IMD di 2nd e 3rd ordine, la rejezione di IF e di immagine, l’immunità alla modulazione incrociata. Nella diretzione TX il rumore di fase viene soppresso con un basso valore tipico migliore di -165 dBc/Hz !   (Per esempio, negli RTX per Radioamatori, si può trovare il DIGI-SEL  Unit, Icom o il VRF+ uTune, Yaesu che combinati con gli ATU Unit, possono avere funzioni e performance abbastanza simili! )

ENG: The R&S® FK4120/FK4140 digitally tuned HF selectors are optional plug-in modules for the radios of the R&S®M3SR Series 4100. They increase the selectivity of the transmit and receive paths. Receiver parameters such as 2nd and 3rd order intercept, IF rejection, image-frequency rejection and crossmodulation immunity are significantly improved. In the transmit direction, the TX phase noise is suppressed to produce typical values as low as –165 dBc/Hz.
- Five-circuit lowpass filter (0 Hz to 1.5 MHz) for receive frequencies below 1.5 MHz
- Digitally tuned tracking bandpass filters (1.5 MHz to 30 MHz) with 20 dB or 40 dB edge steepness at 10 % frequency offset. – (for Ham radio See the DIGI-SEL  Icom or VRF+uTune Yesu + the ATU Units)

E.M.E. Conference 2008, there were more than 168 EME Operators at the 13th International EME Conference 2008 in Florence, Italy (clik for very impressive big image).
EME, Earth-Moon-Earth è un particolare tipo di  radiocomunicazioni amatoriali Terra-Luna-Terra, che utilizza la Luna come riflettore passivo. A Firenza si è tenuta la 13° Conferenza Mondiale EME 2008 a cui hanno partecipato ben 168 Operatori dalle varie parti del mondo. (Cliccare per vedere una immagine grande!)

Everyone I talked with had a great time and thought the conference was excellent: location, facilities, technical sessions, refreshments, banquet, tours – (I especially enjoyed the tour of the Marconi home)… all were wonderful. Questo programma di K1JT implementa la trasmissione e la ricezione digitale tramite la soundcard ed è utilizzabile con segnali estremamente deboli!
Un QSO in modalità WSPR  risulta piu’ lento rispetto ad altri modi digitali quale per esempio JT65B usato per EME , a causa del protocollo molto robusto, ma i risultati possono essere migliori !

This is the double screen-shot that shows the stations that I received on 8th September, 2008 where is the QSO of 20:44 and the report  received from EB1APK via  http://wsprnet.org/… More than 1400km WITH ONLY 5W and a dipole that almost touches the roof of the house !”
WSPR QSO is slower compared to other digital modes like JT65B used for EME due to strong protocol used, but results could be better !
A full manual for WSPR  has not yet been written, but a Quick Start Guide TXT format; See the Link .

IC-7700: Product Review from QST Magazine. Report some data – Link to PA1HR’s Review data table

IC-7700 QST Review and PA1HR’s QST data table. Sulla rivista della ARRL, QST di Ottobre 2008 modificato nel QST di Maggio 2009, si trova la Recenzione del IC-7700 HF 50MHz 200W Transceiver della Icom, con risultati molto interessanti. L’apparato è stato recensito da Rick Lindquist, WW3DE, National Contest Journal Managing Editor.
Nelle 7 pagine dell’ampio articolo di QST, oltre alla recensione è interessante leggere anche quanto scrive su un inserto ”Prospettive degli operatori di Contest”   Dave Patton, NN1N Membership and Volunteer Programs Manager.

Tosi Davide, I4TUD; Ecco il noto Laboratorio Assistenza Radio per Radioamatori

 
I4TUD, Tosi Davide un radioamatore coi fiocchi! Nel bel paese di Copparo a due passi da Ferrara c’è sempre un via vai di apparati radio che hanno bisogno di soccorso tecnico e spesso, se non si tratta del “corriere” si incontrano vari radioamatori che con ansia si avvicinano (spesso si riesce solo sino all’uscio..!) per riferire i guai sopraggiunti inaspettati e vorrebbero assistere agli interventi..! Davide è un Radioamatore e sa quali sono, o sarebbero i desideri, ma per il bene di tutti: rassicura e assicura ogni suo interessamento e “farà sapere” gli esiti. Come si vedrà dalle due immagini si tratta di un Assistenza Tecnica  autorizzata dai maggiori produttori e distributori di apparati radio che viene fatta con passione e con un Laboratorio Eccellente!

Raduno ATV Todi 2008, Radioamatori e nuove tecniche per Amateur Television

TantiRadioamatori, molti con le loro gentili Xyl sono giunti a Todi dalle provincie di Ancona, Arezzo, Siena e da Orvieto, Foligno e Perugia.
Una giornata di splendido sole, una fredda tramontana sotto zero, ritrovo presso la Esco Electronic Surplus Components come daprogramma. – Le sig.re Xyl erano attese da un Pulman che le ha accompagnate in visita alla vicina città di Todi e poi alle 13.00 al ristorante Cibocchi.

Vintage Radio, 1982 The FT-102 Yaesu HF All Mode Transceiver

FT-102, Alessandro, IV3HLS radioamatore dal 1984 e grande appassionato della radio, ha realizzato un suo bel blog dedicato, in piena era digitale.., agli apparati vintage che mantengono il loro fascino intatto anche oggi. Una eccellente collezione di broshure d’epoca, recensioni, tanto altro materiale e Link. Qui sopra l’FT-102 il Transceiver che la Yaesu realizzò nel 1982 prima di abbandonare i finali a valvole.
