Icom new release of the broadband IC-R 8600 – 10kHz-3GHzの広帯域 (新発売)

Icom Inc. Co. Japan ha comunicato il 14/2/2017 che il Ricevitore a larga banda IC-R8600 da 10kHz a 3GHz con una parte in FPGA e tecnologia DSP sarà rilasciato in Giappone a fine Marzo 2017. Il prezzo consigliato è di 228,000 Yen + tasse. (dati da Japanese lang.)

Icom Co., Ltd. will release IC-R8600 a communications receiver that covers an ultra-wideband of 10 kHz to 3 GHz from the end of March 2017 in Japan – Receiver analog modes (USB / LSB, FSK, CW, AM, FM / WFM) and digital modes (DCR, D – STAR ® , NXDN ® , dPMR ® , P25) – In addition, FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) + DSP method is adopted, demodulation is all processed by software. — Price in Japan 228,000 yen + tax. IC-R8600 – It supports operation from PC and remote control via LAN. Moreover, by providing I/Q output terminal, it can be used for advanced radio wave analysis etc.
In terms of operability, 4.3 inch color TFT liquid crystal display to touch operation is equipped as a user interface. High-precision spectroscope and high-resolution display that draw out the power of waterfall are possible. etc (!!see the original Icom page in Japanese)

• Spurious signals in the fixed mode spectrum scope screen have been reduced.
• Flickering of the spectrum scope screen has been reduced.
• Accuracy of the spectrum scope in CW mode has been improved.
• Frequency response near the edges of the spectrum scope has been improved.
Other resolved issues
• “CI-V USB →REMOTE Transceiver Address” setting problem has been corrected.
• Unnecessary OVF indication at the end of a transmission has been corrected.

At Tokyo Ham Fair 2016, on 20 August 2016, Icom Inc. Co announced 4 new products: the IC-7610 Transceiver, the IC-R8600 Desktop Receiver, the IC-R30 Handheld Receiver and the ID-51A/E PLUS2 V/UHF D-STAR handheld.

New IC-R8600 wideband receiver covers 0.01-3000 MHz in analog and decodes multiple digital protocols, including D-STAR, NXDN, dPMR and APCO P25 – It has a large 4.3″ touch screen color display with real-time spectrum scope and waterfall. The circuit employs modern FPGA/DSP architecture with superheterodyne circuitry, Looks great!

The IC-7300 employs an RF direct sampling system,  where RF signals are directly convert to digital data (ADC). Then processed in the FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) and in the DSP >D/A. – IC-7300 DSP an TMS 320C6745DPTPA3 (idem to DSP rx of the IC-7850 – 7851) at 2250 MFLOPS –  370MHz !

The Appendix 1 presents results of RF lab test suite performed on the radio.

ADC Clip Levels – (light the on-screen OVF red icon) OVF indication occurs only when a strong out-of-channel signal is present. In-channel signals cause AGC action which attenuates the signal at the Rx ADC imput  (LTC2208-14) via an diode PIN BAP70Q (D1251).

Recirpocal Mixing Noise occurs in a direct-sampling SDR receiver when the phase-noise sidebands of the Rx ADC clock mix with strong signals close in frequency to the wanted signal, producing unwanted noise products in the detection channel and degrading the receiver sensitivity.

IC-7100 New Firmware E5 Update 15/1/2016 to improve SSB Modulation

IC-7100 Quad-band Transeiver –  Icom Co. Inc.  released a new firmware E5 for the IC-7100 to resolve Low SSB Modulation  issue. – Update 15/1/2016 the firmware have been updated: CPU M to Version 1.11 / DSP I to Version 1.03.

29/1/2016 Icom RS-BA1 Remote Controll Update the Version 1.91
The IC-7300 is now supported (including new IP+ command and real-time spectrum scope screen with waterfal (like IC-7850/51) and other general improvements…. more info to Icom Inc. support web page).

You must have a previous version of the RS-BA1 software installed BEFORE you can update to version 1.91 (v. previous you purchase) RS-BA1が7300に対応する (ver.1.90 for Japanese users).

New [IP+] Function improves the receiver IMD and the 3rd order intercept point (IP3) performance. When a weak signal is received adjacent to strong interference the ADC is optimized against signal distorsion.

THe IC-7300’s RMDR (reciprocal mixing dynamic range) and Phase Noise characterstics are improved about 15dB (at 1 kHz frquence spacing) comparate to the IC-7200.

 Audio Scope Function can be used to observe varius AF (audio frequency) characteristics: compressor level, filter width, notch filter width and keying waveform in the CW mode in the FFT scope with the waterfall function and the oscilloscope.

Icom IC-7300 BASIC MANUAL should make interesting reading.

Icom datasheet says they are using technology found in SDR’s (and other devices) – Direct Sampling SDR combined with a Legacy Superheterodyne back end running a 36 kHz IF & DSP – Real-time Spectrum scope plus an multi-functions display touch-screen. 

Icom probably choose to reuse existing DSP’s software developed and engineered for previous latest radios rather than “start from scratch” for their new generation radio starting in IC-7300.

The installed firmware version were V1.01 for the receiver test and V1.11 for the trasmitter tests. The baseline configuration for all receiver test was MAIN Receiver, NR/NB/ATT/Notch off, AGC Slow.
