The DSP IF filter shape factor (-6/-60 dB). This is the ratio of the -60 dB bandwidth to the -6 dB bandwidth, which is a figure of merit for the filter’s adjacent-channel’s rejection. The lower the shape factor, the “tighter” the filter. – The two type of DSP filter shape factor for each SSB, SSB-Data and CW can be selected independently from soft and sharp.
A sharp profile with a flat passband and soft profile with a more rounded passband (Twin Passband Tuning [TWIN-PBT] is also easily provided, which enables the filter sides to be both indipendently moved and narrowed, the DSP also provides audio filtering and shaping functions). Depending on  the operating situation, for example handling a pile-up or receiving a very weak signal, you can flexibly change sharp and soft filter shapes or reduce or shift the filter width, even while receiving a signal, by a simple push of a front panel key. CAUTION:  NEVER turn the transceiver power OFF while updating the firmware!
You can turn the transceiver power OFF only when the transceiver displays that rebooting is required. If you turn the transceiver power OFF, or if a power failure occurs during updating, the transceiver firmware will be corrupted and you will have to send the transceiver back to the nearest Icom distributor for repair.

Il fattore di forma del filtro IF DSP (-6/-60 dB). Questo “shape factor” è il rapporto tra la larghezza di banda a -60 dB e la larghezza di banda a -6 dB del filtro impostato, che determina la qualità di merito della reiezione del filtro stesso. Infatti più basso sarà il fattore di forma, più ripidi saranno i fianchi del filtro. – I due tipi del fattore di forma: linea morbida o tagliente del filtro DSP possono essere selezionati in modo indipendente per ciascun modo operativo SSB, SSB-Data e CW.
Si potrà usare un profilo tagliente (sharp) con una banda passante piatta oppure un profilo morbido (soft) con una banda passante più arrotondata ( E’ anche previsto il noto Twin Passband Tuning – [TWIN-PBT ] operando solo su due manopole concentriche, che consentono di spostare a piacere sia il centro del filtro sia la sua larghezza di banda in maniera flessibile e indipendente, poi lo stesso DSP fornisce anche il filtraggio audio e la sua sagomatura). A seconda della situazione di funzionamento, per esempio la gestione di un pile-up o la ricezione di un segnale molto debole, è possibile semplicemente impegare un  filtro tagliente (sharp) o uno morbido (soft), ovvero spostare o variare l’ampiezza del filtro IF, anche durante la ricezione del segnale, con una semplice pressione di tasti  ecomandi sul pannello frontale —- (Senza le selezioni multiple e sequenziali! passo-passo).

ATTENZIONE:  NON spegnere il ricetrasmettitore durante l’aggiornamento del firmware!
È possibile spegnere in OFF solo quando il display del transceiver visualizza che il riavvio è necessario. Se si spegne il transceiver, o se si verifica la mancanza di alimentazione durante l’aggiornamento, il firmware del ricetrasmettitore sarà danneggiato e si dovrà inviare l’apparato al distributore Icom per la riparazione

Icom introduces a direct competitor to the Kenwood TS-2000 TS-2000x!…. The IC-9100 has only one main DSP unit. In the 9100′s price class, it would not be cost-effective to include a second DSP board (ADC, DSP, DAC, support IC’s) for dual receive. No VHF and UHF at the same time.

Icom Inc. have shown prototype samples of the new IC-9100 at the JARL Ham Fair 2009 held on August 22/23 2009 in Tokyo. The IC-9100 is a HF/50MHz, VHF/UHF base-station transceiver with optional D-Star capability and extra 1200MHz coverage, SSB, CW, RTTY, AM, FM & DV modes, Digital Twin PBT IF-DSP 32-bit floating point DSP & 24-bit AD/DA converter, Built-in ATU HF/50MHz, Double superheterodyne with I/Q 2nd IF Mixer -  For HF/50MHz 1st IF Roofing filter 15kHz – optional 3 kHz and 6 kHz – optional D-STAR DV mode operation on the esport version, Satellite mode operation, and more.

Icom ha presentato, alla recente Fiera dei radioamatori in Tokyo, il prototipo del nuovo IC-9100 un transceiver multibanda e multimodo, flessibile e ampliabile con vari opzional come la scheda UX-9100 per la banda di 1.2 GHz, la scheda per abilitarlo al D-STAR (DV mode) e due Roofing filters più stretti da 3 e 6 kHz, rispetto a quello in dotazione da 15. –
Icom introduce un diretto concorrente al Kenwood TS-2000 TS-2000x… IC-9100 risulta avere solo un Main DSP Unit , per mantenere l’apparato in una classe di prezzo medio e contenere il costo effettivo Icom non ha incluso un secondo DSP Unit (con ADC, DSP, DAC, support IC’s) per un doppio ricevitore. No VHF e UHF allo stesso tempo.

Ha filtri digitali con l’IF DSP dotato di un cip a 32-bit a virgola mobile e di un convertitore Digitale/Analogico 24.bit . Ha le stesse impostazioni operative e due sole conversioni IF con la 2nd a I/Q a rejezzione di immagine, così come fatto nel  recente IC-7600. Deriva dall’implementazione progettuale del IC-7400 con le più recenti risorse tecnologiche sviluppate per il 7700 – 7600 ed in parte trae esperienze dal IC-910 per i 1.200 e per le operazioni Sat. Ha un display monocromatico (con due tipi da selezionare). Include ben cinque connettori di antenna, l’accordatore ATU per HF e 50 MHz e tra l’altro anche una presa USB “B” sul pannello posteriore. IMD3 at MDS: The “classical” method is to inject two test signals of equal amplitude at a level which raises the idle-channel noise in the baseband by 3 dB (IMD3 product at MDS). Peter Hart G3SJX of the RSGB uses IMD product at 10 dB (S+N)/N ratio as the level reference. The ARRL uses 3 methods: IMD level references at MDS and S5 (-97 dBm) and test signal level at 0 dBm. The objective of the 2-signal DR3 test is to measure the amplitude of the third-order IMD products arising from two closely-spaced signals outside the receiver’s IF passband. A problem arises in separating these signals from the reciprocal mixing noise which is generated when either or both of the test signals mixes with the LO phase noise.

APF/TPF a new twist: The TPF (twin-peak filter) for RTTY/CW, an RTTY FIL menu selection on the PROIII, has been promoted to the front panel APF/TPF button on the IC-7600. More on that feature in a bit. Pressing the APF/TPF button in CW imposes one of three mini audio-peaking filters – 80, 160 or 320 Hz or NAR, MID and WIDE – a top whatever DSP IF filter settings are in play. To hear much of a difference, the IF filter must be set to a passband that’s significantly greater than the APF setting. For example, you might use the 80 Hz setting when you’ve got the IF filter set to, say, 150 Hz. When you press the button, the current setting appears briefly on screen, although you can disable this. You can choose either a “soft” or “sharp” APF shape via a menu. The ’7600 lets you use the TPF in tandem with any of the three IF filter bandwidths (plus soft or sharp contour) you’ve set up in advance, and you can takefull advantage of the dual-passband IF shift. – More settings ….more steps!

Sulla rivista della ARRL, QST di Novembre 2009 è riportata una interessante Recenzione del Transceiver IC-7600 HF 50MHz 100W di recente prodotto dalla Icom Inc. Si può inoltre visionare la bella pagina web di Hans, PA1HR con una più ampia raccolta dei numeri tratti da QST “Key Measurements Summary” ee che riguardano i più noti apparati per Radioamatori della serie: Icom Yesu Elecraft Flex Microtelecom (Perseus) e Tecn-Tec. L’IC-7600 è stato recensito, con una ampia e dettagliata descrizione  funzionale ed operativa che interessa le funzionalità del nuovo Transceivrer Icom, da parte di Rick Lindquist, WW3DE (NCJ) National Contest Journal Managing Editor.
Invece, nella Tabelllina inserita qui sopra, con l’immagine del 7600, sono riportati sommariamente, per un semplice e rapido confronto,  una parte delle misure descritte su QST “Key Measurements Summary” rilevate nelle rispettive recensioni pubblicate dalla ARRL per: IC-7600 IC-7700 IC-7800 ed FT-2000D.

APF/TPF a new twist – Il TPF (Doppio-Filtro di Picco) per RTTY/CW, che nel PRO3 cambiava la sola banda passante dal menu RTTY FIL, ora sull’IC-7600 ha la selezione dal pannello anteriore con i tasti APF/TPF e FILTER.  Ecco una sintetica informazione su questa caratteristica: Premendo  il tasto APF/TPF im CW si imposta sopra uno dei tre mini-filtri audio di picco: 80, 160 o 320 Hz cioè NAR, MID e WIDE a prescindere dall’impostazione di quale filtro DSP sia in gioco. Per consentire di ascoltare  in modo migliore, il filtro IF deve essere impostato su una banda passante che sia discretamente maggiore rispetto all’impostazione del valore del APF. Per esempio, si può utilizzare l’impostazione APF di 80 Hz, quando il filtro IF (DSP) sia impostato per esempio su 150 Hz. Quando si preme il pulsante, l’impostazione corrente appare brevemente sullo schermo (Display). È possibile, inoltre,  scegliere la forma del filtro APF trà “soft” o “sharp” attraverso un menu. Quindi l’operatività che era quasi fissa sul PRO3, viene qui resa selezionabile con più combinazioni ed è possibile usare il TPF in tandem a ciascuna banda passante dei tre filtri IF (più la selezione soft o sharp contour) al fine di  ottenere il miglio risultato di ascolto anche con l’aiuto del Dual-Passaband IF shift. [Note] The output of the monitor demod is fed into the main receiver audio amplifier, whose gain is controlled by the AF Gain control. The AF Gain pot is the “master fader”. All Icom transceivers equipped with a monitor circuit are configured in this way……

The IC-7700 firmware upgrade. There is a full instructions of the Updating on p. 16-2 to 16-9 of the User Manual (Section 16 Updating  The Firmware), Two methods of firmware update are available: one uses the USB-Memory (USB port  and Memory Drive is required), and the other uses a PC (Ethernet cable is required and IP address) – The USB-Memory must have been formatted by the IC-7700 transceiver (FAT/FAT32 formats).
The general rule with FAT vs. FAT32 is this: If your computer has FAT32 capability, use that. Otherwise, use FAT. – There is a full description of the USB memory formatting procedure on p. 12-26 of the User Manual (Section 12 Set Mode – Formatting the USB-Memory)

Radcom June 2009 G3SJX review IC-7600 Measured Performance.  Above, you see only one table of many tests radcom. Available: Close-in IMD, IP3 on 7MHz Band with 2.4kHz Bandwidth, USB mode, Preamp Off, Spacing 3kHz – 50kHz and 15/6/3kHz Roofing.

Source: (Radcom) – At close-in generator spacings, intermodulation-limited dynamic range held extremely well, a big improvement on the IC-756Pro3 and one of the best radios araund. Reciprocal mixing noise (RM) from the first LO prevented an accurate assessment using the narrower roofing filters. [Note by G3SJX]: I was unable to measure the front-end blocking level effectively as it was masked by RM noise but was araund +8dBm outside of the roofing filter bandwindth with the preamp out.

I have a sneaky feeling that interrupting the update process can corrupt the boot-loader (See the Note) For safety’s sake, plug the 7700 into the computer UPS (750 VA) when upgrading (UPS = Uninterruptible Power Supply)  However i belive that any thorough design would must have a boot-loader in a protected sector of the flash of  course so that it couldn’t be erased under normal software update circumstances.
ICOM issued a clarification stating that the firmware updates are in fact cumulative. When you install 1.10 it include the updated previus features
As recommended by Icom, first save your custom settings to USB memory. Upgrading to F/W version 1.10 results in a  *full reset* of the IC-7700

[Note] Non togliere alimentazione al transceiver durante l’aggiornamento del firmware!
Si dice che potrebbe essere dannosa una interruzione del processo di aggiornamento perchè può corrompere il boot-loader. Quindi, per motivi di sicurezza, durante il processo di aggiornamento con il computer è opportuno alimentare il transceive collegandolo alla rete elettrica tramite un UPS da 750 VA minimo (UPS = Gruppo Statico di Continuità)
Credo tuttavia che qualsiasi progettazione accurata deve avere un boot-loader in un settore separato della flash-memory in uso, in modo che essa non dovrebbe essere cancellata durante le normali fasi di aggiornamento del software.
ICOM ha rilasciato un chiarimento che, gli aggiornamenti del firmware sono in effetti cumulativi. Quando si installa la 1,10 si include gli aggiornamenti rilasciati in precedenza
Come raccomandato dal Icom, prima salvare le impostazioni personalizzate in una memoria USB. L’aggiornamento del F/W versione 1,10 comporta anche il *reset completo* del IC-7700

IC-7800 aggiornamento software Ver. 2.20. La Icom ha rilasciato un nuovo aggiornamento del Firmware del transceiver IC-7800 in data 19.05.2009. Le informazioni, il download del file (ZIP da 3.84MB) e le istruzioni si scaricano anche accedendo al  link qui sopra.

Maggiori miglioramenti della Ver. 2.20 (ITALIANO)
La Icom ha aggiunto interessanti funzionalità nella gestione delle memorie in TX sia in RTTY che PSK31 con l’utilizzo di 4 tasti nella tastiera esterna. Altrettanto per l’abilitazione  di messaggi TX pre memorizzati sia in VOCE memory   in SSB che CW memory in cw,  con  l’utilizzo dei tasti F1 – F4 della tastiera esterna.  Consente all’operatore di gestire o no personalizzando limiti di banda predefiniti che  sono poi segnalati da un bip audio.  Per la sola versione Italiana: la capacità di estensione della banda 40m da 7  a 7.200 MHz.

Major points of the Ver.2.20 update. (ENG)
1. Adds the ability to send TX memory contents, while operating in either the RTTY mode, or the PSK31 mode, pushing one of the 4 keys on an external keypad. (More details of the external keypad are described on page 2-6 of IC-7800 instruction manual.)
2. Adds the ability to send VOICE memory, in the SSB mode, or CW memory keyer contents, in the CW mode, by pushing one of the F1 – F4 keys on an external USB keyboard.
3. Enables the operator to program custom band-edge frequencies. You can also hear a beep when tuning out of, or into the programmed Amateur band. The operator can now limit transmitting outside the programmed frequency band.
4. The transmit capability on the 7MHz band has been extended from 7.0-7.1MHz to 7.0-7.2MHz. The RX frequency range has also been extended. (The modification applies to only Italian version.)
