IC-7300 HF/50/70MHz Firmware Update (MAIN Ver.1.14 & FPGA Ver.1.13)

Icom IC-7300 Firmware Update Version 1.14 Update 5/10/2016. The firmware will be updated to the following versions: Main CPU: 1.14 Front CPU: 1.01 – DSP Program: 1.07 – DSP Data: 1.00 – FPGA: 1.13 – This new firmware has been designed to provide several improvements and resolved issues (Icom Inc.)

Before you install the firmware, download the Icom installation guide and read the official instructions first! – [Note !] Never turn OFF the transceiver power during the update. – Thoroughly read Section 15 (Updating The Firmware) of the “FULL MANUAL” before starting the update. (!!…peccato che nei “Basic Manual” in lingua, la Sez. 15 non sia stata riportata tradotta e quindi si trova solo in inglese! …)

Icom improvements Found in IC-7300 Firmware Update (Ver.1.14)
• Spurious signals in the fixed mode spectrum scope screen have been reduced.
• Flickering of the spectrum scope screen has been reduced.
• Accuracy of the spectrum scope in CW mode has been improved.
• Frequency response near the edges of the spectrum scope has been improved.
Other resolved issues
• “CI-V USB →REMOTE Transceiver Address” setting problem has been corrected.
• Unnecessary OVF indication at the end of a transmission has been corrected.

IC-7300 HF/50MHz 100W Transceiver – EU version HF/50 MHz /70MHz (50W on 4m) – Receiver system: FPGA Direct Sampling Superheterodine, intermediate frequency: 36kHz (Icom basic manual and sheet) making it possible to simplify the circuit construction.

29/1/2016 Icom RS-BA1 Remote Controll Update the Version 1.91
The IC-7300 is now supported (including new IP+ command and real-time spectrum scope screen with waterfal (like IC-7850/51) and other general improvements…. more info to Icom Inc. support web page).

You must have a previous version of the RS-BA1 software installed BEFORE you can update to version 1.91 (v. previous you purchase) RS-BA1が7300に対応する (ver.1.90 for Japanese users).

New [IP+] Function improves the receiver IMD and the 3rd order intercept point (IP3) performance. When a weak signal is received adjacent to strong interference the ADC is optimized against signal distorsion.

THe IC-7300’s RMDR (reciprocal mixing dynamic range) and Phase Noise characterstics are improved about 15dB (at 1 kHz frquence spacing) comparate to the IC-7200.

 Audio Scope Function can be used to observe varius AF (audio frequency) characteristics: compressor level, filter width, notch filter width and keying waveform in the CW mode in the FFT scope with the waterfall function and the oscilloscope.

The combination of the waterfall function and the real-time spectrum scope assists in maximum receiver performance.

Icom IC-7300 BASIC MANUAL should make interesting reading.

Icom datasheet says they are using technology found in SDR’s (and other devices) – Direct Sampling SDR combined with a Legacy Superheterodyne back end running a 36 kHz IF & DSP – Real-time Spectrum scope plus an multi-functions display touch-screen. 

Icom probably choose to reuse existing DSP’s software developed and engineered for previous latest radios rather than “start from scratch” for their new generation radio starting in IC-7300.

Icom IC-7300 RF Direct Sampling Radio HF/6m – IC-7300でHFの扉を開こう

Icom IC-7300 is Boorn at Tokyo 2015!「IC-7300でHFの扉を開こう」it adopts the RF Direct Sampling System – Instead of the “conventional” superheterodyne system, Icom utilizes the RF Direct Sampling System – From the brochure, the Phase Noise at 2 kHz offset is -130 dBc/Hz this equates about to 103 dB RMDR. – (dati interessanti e prospettive, da verificare !)-

The IC-7300 has Twin PBT controls (traditional konobs!), Icom That equates uses the same libraries of the current Icom IF-DSP (…at least it would seem so)

The FT-991 is an traditional superheterodine quad-bands! The  new IC-7300 adopt the latest  RF direct sampling method (BPF >A/D >FPGA >DSP >D/A – see the Icom block-diagram below) and it is equipped with a high-performance real-time band scope and waterfall on large color TFT touch-screen display!

Q/A at Ham Fair presentation Q1: What FPGA are you using? Xilinx or Altera? A engineer: Cannot tell // Q2: What is the A/D converter and what is its sampling frequency? A engineer: ICOM is still investigating a couple of candidates. The A/D converter sampling frequency is 122MHz.  (source: TOHOKU2008 ) (ADC’s …e.g. LTC2208 or 2209)

According to the engineer at the presentation, ICOM will start shipping IC-7300 by the end of 2015. The target price is under 150,000 JPY
