RS-BA1 Ver.1.80 Enanced Functions and Features Icom Update 2015/07/17

RS-BA1 IP Remote Control Software Icom Update Ver. 1.80, Enhanced Functions and Features – Now the high- resolution spectrum scope with waterfall function can be observed on the RS-BA1 (1.80) for a single band on only the IC-7850 and IC-7851 – You must have a previous version of the RS-BA1 software installed BEFORE you can update to version 1.80.

In addition to the conventional tuning knob controls, some items can be adjusted with slider controls (see pictur above) The slider controls provide visual and fine adjustment within the the function’s range.


The background color of the remote controller screen has been changed from gray to black.  Its muted black background and one-colored icons provide better visibility. [Note] When you use the RS-BA1 with a USB 3.0 device, you must use a USB 3.0 drive.

The IC-7851 employs a new Direct Digital Synthesizer (DDS) along with a Phase Locked Oscillator for the LO – ICOM writes: breaking the boundaries of traditional designs.

See the video below: 1st step: a weak CW signal is received, 2nd: a strong signal is receiver on the same frequency, 3td step: move generator distance from center frequency: 100Hz / 200Hz/… 2kHz / 10kHz etc. (the CW signal cannot be eard or be clearly eard again) …What a difference. Icom’s engineers focused on a new Local Oscillator (LO) in the IC-7851′ that drastically reduces the phase noise. As a result of this design, the purity of the LO achieves a Reciprocal Mixing Dynamic Range (RMDR) of 110dB!

– The USB connector now also accepts a USB mouse for operation.

– The Voice Recording function recording time has been increased.
– Transmission recording capability has been added.

The Main Features that have been added
Waterfall display function that allows a more complete understanding of the status of the band. – Mouse operation of band scope. – Audio scope function that enables analysis of audio transmissions. – The  control by PC-less remote shack corresponding  &  CI-V. – Enhanced recording function and corresponding recording of about up to 18 hours, also recording the transmitted sound.

The IC-7700 uses a STAC2942 power amplifier in common source push-pull configuration (common source). The power amplifier provides a eliable 200W of output power up to 54MHz. – The STAC2942B is a gold metallized N-channel MOS field-effect RF power transistor. It is intended for use in 50 V DC large signal applications up to 250 MHz (ST datasheet)
The effective quad cooling fan system makes it possible to generate 200W full power output even during full duty cycle operation.

HF-7070 article emphasis the need for a very good phase noise local oscillator! –
n excellent article in the July/August issue of QEX entitled “The HF7070 HF/LF Communications Receiver Prototype” by Colin Horrabin, G3SBI. –
It is a up-conversion design, a double conversion Superheterodyne with a first IF at 45 MHz and a second IF that is centered at 44 kHz before going to a 25 bit audio ADC. – HF-7070 prototype (see QEX) dynamic range rivalling current down conversion big receivers! ..The “in-band” IP3 dynamic range at a 100 Hz spacing in a 2.4 kHz bandwidth is 97 dB ! (…NF 12 dB and an IP3 of 19 dBm)

NCØB, Rob per il TS-990S Ful Test Report, utilizza ben 6 pagine di cui tre per ampie annotazioni sulle misure e sulle anomalie o differenze con standard utilizzabili o utilizzati dalla ARRL, in particolare con Analizzatori con filtri da 3Hz a 1Hz o meno di 1Hz ! – (DR3 with 3 Hz or less testing method)! – Dice non sono condizioni di operazioni reali in aria! Insiste nel valutare (come dice anche Adam, VA7OJ) il valore del fattore di Reciprocal Mixing Dynamic Range (RMDR) – is ofthen the limiting factor in receiver performance! – (RMDR a 5 or 2 kHz è anche ben descritto su QST di Aprile 2012 da Bob Allison, ingegnere ARRL laboratory.

TS-990S #6 REJECTING INTERFERENCE – “IF BEF Filter” & more news



The Kenwood Band Elimination Filter is the notch filter that can change the bandwidth and attenuation (deep) at the IF stage. (See pictur below – click to enlarg!)
Il filtro BEF di eliminazione banda è un filtro notch in cui si può modificare la larghezza di banda (da 300 a 1200Hz) e il picco di attenuazione in fase IF (da -20 a -80dB).- Premere [BEF/SEL] (Main) o [BEF/SEL] (Sub) per abilitare il filtro eliminazione banda IF per il VFO selezionato. Ruotare il controllo NOTCH (M) o NOTCH (S) per regolare la frequenza del notch. The stopband width can be selected from the available range of 300Hz to 1200Hz  and the amount of  attenuation depth can be selected from the available range of 20 dB to 80 dB – The [BEF/SEL] (Main) LED or [BEF/SEL] (Sub) LED lights green / Rotate the NOTCH (Main) or NOTCH (Sub) control to adjust the notch frequency …. Kenwood TS-990S – the RF front-end contains selectable Band-pass Filters (covered by the screen on the picture) – The double balanced grounded switch type 1st mixer works by the principle of reduces signal distorsion. – The five built-in 1st IF Roofing filters ahead of the 1st IF stage to eliminate overloading caused by strong signals just outside the fixed bandpass filters or of the Preselector manually adjustable –

Kenwood’s Preselector [P-SEL] selecting the narrow bandwidth tunable filter attenuates the interfering signal which has 2 to 3 MHz separation from the target frequency. –
Icom IC-7700 uses a duble conversion system composed of a D-MOS FET 1st mixer and Icom’s developed image rejection mixer for the 2nd stage and fixed bandpass filters  and a Icom’s [DIGI-SE] preselector type –  ( note the large toroidal coils on the  Icom RF BPF bank)!

FDM-DUO a new SDR rtx made in Italy – ELAD has displayed his “little SDR Tranceiver” at Ham Radio Friedrichshafen 2013. Quite interesting concept to have a stand alone QRP rig at 192kHz sampling, combined with an extended SDR if you use it with a Computer.


It is a Direct Sampling SDR receviver (is an RF Sampler) with a DDC on a FPGA, and a Cortex ARM DSP module for filtering and demodulation in stand-alone mode. In RX and TX directions it is a fully SDR technology. The IC-7700 uses a STAC2942 power amplifier in common source push-pull configuration (common source). [Rumors] It is said that the manufacturer of the MRF-150 used in the 7700’s series PA Unit, has recently discontinued this supply. This event has probably brought Icom to design a new PA Unit based on  the new DMOS STAC2942 ©STMicroelectronics parts.

Icom RS-BA1 Ver.1.30 – RC-28 Remote Encoder – Legal aspects! Rig Monitoring a different purpose

The new RC-28 Remote Encoder accessory gives users a tactile approach to the RS-BA1 Remote Control. Icom has released the Ver.1.30 !! – The RS-BA1 allows you to use the radio installed in another room using your home network or even from a remote location over the Internet. – (operator not physically present in the Remote Rig) – See the legal aspects below – Info to Rig Monitoring  on the Computer Screen (For Vision-Impaired Ham Radio op.) – See the Link below.

RS-BA1 [Note] ….Visual Basic and use MSCOMM control can not detect a change in the Windows Device Table (after the COM port has been opened for use) – These programs hang when the hardware table changes while the port is open – (This is not the programmers fault!)
!! a solution: [Exit] the program first, then turn the Icom Rradio [OFF].

RS-BA1 Remote Control Software Upgrade Ver. 1.30 is now downloadable from the Icom co.Jp site. – This upgrade is not stand-alone, and must be installed over a licensed base installation of RS-BA1. (Update, the remote utility is still V.1.2 but the remote control is V.1.3!!) – US Retail price RS-BA1 software is $129.99

[Notes]: DO NOT allow the PC to go into the sleep or standby mode while using the RS-BA1 Software. Otherwise, it might not work properly after the PC resumes normal activity.
When not using the radio: Disconnect the radio from both the Remote Utility and Remote Controller. – Even if you disconnect from the radio, it does not turn OFF the radio!

Since cannot turn the radio ON or OFF with RS-BA1 Remote Control operation, the radio must be turned ON. – [Note] there other control board and software (no Icom) to control power to equipment or other options, it works together with Icom RS-BA1 or HRD software etc.

IC-7600, la Ver.1.11 del firmware è stata inserita il 03.03.2011 nel sito-web della ICOM  Jp. Il nuovo firmware aumenta i comandi e le funzioni per il C.IV control e per l’utilizzo del programma RS-BA1 per il Controllo Remoto dei Transceiver sia via LAN da altre stanze di casa oppure via Rete Internet da qualsiasi altra località (Nota: leggere bene il manuale istruzioni RS-BA1 !)

The supported OS is added: Microsoft® Windows® 8 (32/64 bit, except “RT” versions). The USB driver isn’t changed previous one. USB driver installation guide is revised only.

The configurable range of the CI-V address has changed to between 01h and DFh

Additional functions for CI-V commands are provided to support the RS-BA1 (Remote IP), as described on the Icom update  information in PDF format. Command 10 has changed to be used not only to send tuning step settings, but also to read the.
While transmitting in the CW mode, or if the Break-in function is ON, the transceiver transmits CW code when the PC sends this comman, etc.

A new feature, the Time-Out Timer (CI-V) function is added to the Others Set mod. Turns the Time-Out Timer function ON  (3, 5, 10, 20 or 30 minutes) or OFF. Increased security: If a continuous transmission exceeds the selected time period,  this function will cut off the transmission, to prevent a prolonged transmission. (default: OFF)
[Note]: This function will be activated only when you transmit using CI-V commands, or pushing [TRANSMIT] on the transceiver!

About the Remote * control system:
An RS-BA1® remote control system consists of at least one PC, which is used as a Base station (Server) and at least one PC, which is used as a Remote station (Client). Both PCs have to be connected with a network. [NoteClick the Remoting a Icom Radios picture to enlarge

The IC-7800 (Upgrade model Ver.3.00) has built-in RS-BA1 base station function. Base station PC is not required (Ethernet cable CI-V+audio) – The IC-7800 (upgrade model) or new IC-7100 can wake-up from standby mode via the RS-BA1.

Radios are physically connected to the Base station, and the Remote station can operate the radios through the network. In the remote control system, CI-V commands, control commands such as “Connect” and “Disconnect,” and audio are exchanged between a Base station and a Remote station, through their Remote Utilities.

Most functions and modes of your transceiver, including interference rejection functions and IF filter settings, can be controlled. Also, S-meter and SWR can be observed – Rx Voice recording function available and more.
