– (Clik to enlarge!)

— Link to: Avatar Official Movie Website

This revolutionary new technique is changing the way CGI characters are developed – Avatar James Cameron’s epic motion picture, is the story of Jake Sully, a paraplegic marine, who replaces his brother on a secret mission to infiltrate the Na’ vi, the colony of beings that sit on the planet of Pandora, where there is a precious ore, that sells at a ridiculous amount.
Funkamateur, January 2010, have published Part 1 of their review on the ADAT ADT-200 direct-sampling Transceiver, by DJ1TO. The ADT-200 truly raises the bar in overall performance; it is comparable to the rx Perseus (….excluding the Perseus instead, allows the external PC!)

See the Some more RTX information and the Links below. Here are pictures, Retail price and the EN User Manual download …..

ADT-200A is amateur radio transceiver with completely digital signal processing (SDR). The device is equipped with the DSP technology, uses the latest generation of high performance DSP manufactured by Analog Devices Inc. (ADSP-21262 serie) - Similar products are available on the market as Software Defined Radios (SDR), but all those use the ressources of a PC extensively. In contrast, the ADAT transceiver ADT-200A allows stand-alone operation. The ADT-200A has a front end, along with four parallel receivers and can be enhanced with a VHF/UHF module as an option. Eight independent VFO’s provide many split band operations.

The PA is equipped with high voltage MOS-FET’s capable of producing 50W within the range of 1.8MHz to 30MHz. Adaptive predistortion delivers an undistorted transmission signal (IMD3 – 45dBc two- tone modulation, 50W PEP)

Now NO Spectrum Monitoring function available. Will though in a later SW release only. The spectrum can be displayed with the available resolution on the transceiver display. Higher resolution can be achieved by connecting the transceiver via USB port to a Personal Computer. Planned further developments!
Both DSP firmware and Front Panel firmware can be updated via USB. The update procedure is described in the User Manual. Latest DSP Firmware Version 1.33a updated 12.09.2009

No Spectrum analysis?

(*) The traditional 2-Tone measurement procedure is not applicable at AD converters as the IP3 of an AD converter decreases proportional with the input signal. An other fact is, that the intermodulation is considerably lower at real operation with many stochastic signals due to the “Dithering Effect” then as with only two tones.

FTdx-5000 Has the FCC Certificate, ID: K6620361X60, receved December 10, 2009!
That Was Fast….. will be bringing out very soon!

The Main RX (VFO A) is a two-stage down-conversion design 9 MHz first IF and 30kHz second IF . – Yaesu engineers take the down-conversion architecture with narrow ham-band filtering for superior close-in dynamic range. – (Like K3 Elecraft and Orion II Ten-Tec, see the [Note] below!)

The sub RX (VFO B) is not the same! It is a three stage Up-conversion design. The 40.455MHz first IF stage feature 3 roofing filter 15, 6, 3kHz. Each roofinf is a four-pole, monolithic crystal filter (like FT-2000, FT-950). This Sub RX uses a new subdisplay with two EL (Eltro Luminesense) to indicate Sub frequency, graphical wave and menu functions. One EL functions is dedicated at the Main RX.

[Note] Like Orion II IFs: Main Receiver IF1=9 MHz, IF2=455 kHz, IF3=14 kHz (IMD3 101 dB IP3 +24 dBm @ 5kHz) – The Sub Receiver is not the same! IF1=45 MHz, IF2=455 kHz, IF3=14 kHz (+5 dBm @ 20kHz.

See the Some more RX information and the Links below. Here are some more pictures and the EN User Manual (Part 1/Part 2) in PDF….

The FTDX-5000 Some more RX information and Links below..

!!! Main Receiver IMD3: I think the improvements on the front controlls features and changing the receiver from an up conversion design to a down conversion design would push the rig over the Flagship FTdx-9000 in performance!!

!!! Image Rejection: Not specified! – The FTdx-5000 could perhaps use the innovative 2nd IF I/Q image rejection mixer (See Q2053 RF2713 and Q2060 UPC4572G2), for the first time introduced by the small Yaesu FT-450 transceiver??….. We expect everyone to find out!

The Yaesu “answer”… 14 MHz band, CW (500Hz BW), 2kHz offset 105 dB 3rd-orde dynamic range, IP3 +36 dBm, ….way better than the Elecraft K3 @ 103 dB IP3 +28 dBm (K3: qst jan-09)!
The New IF DSP features are powered by two 32-bit processors from Texas Instruments (TMS320C6727B) both running at 300 MHz. Each VFO A/B has its own DSP processor – Built-in Auto tuner – The Transceiver can be extended with optional DMU-2000 and Hi-Q µ-Tuning filters – The four position antenna selection – Built-in 240 VAC power supply – The FTDX5000 uses newly designed, extra sharp roofing filters for the Main receiver (VFO A only) and they are selectable between 300 Hz (optional on some versions), 600 Hz, 3 kHz, 6 kHz and 15 kHz. – The sub RX is not the same! It is a three stage up-conversion design.

!!! DB9 serial port instead of a USB jack. It is surprising that rigs today are still being made with serial ports and not USB ports! (No USB port? … an USB adapter is necessary)

Impiega tre stadi IF in Up-conversione.

It can be looped between RX OUT and RX IN of the HF Trancseiver, or SDR Receiver. – A large toroid core T-200-7 is used, the large core offers a non-loaded Q (efficiency) value. A five bands tuneable Band-Pass Filter bank make up the core of the tiny SCR Preselector, and five telecom grade relays for band switching are connected to its corresponding section of the coil through the Band Selector control on the program software

A carefully PCB layout design and strong L/C decoupling prevent stages to couple in to each other improving the stop band response and filtering noise from control lines. – The program performs the task of adding or subtracting capacitor values in binary fashion in direct relationship with the tuning control on the program software. [Note-1] The outboard tiny SCR Preselector is single-pole, is similar to Icom DIGISEL Preselector or Yaesu VRF Preselector, and have a -6 dB BW of 500 kHz at a centre frequency. These types of preselector (single-pole) provide outstanding protection against OUT-OF-BAND interference, with a bandwidth much narrowe than the standard RF BPF UNIT “fixed bandpass filter networh” – Adding the single-pole preselector can be particulary useful if your station is located near a broadcast station, or if you use Dual Receive a lot in a “multi-trasmitter environment”

[Note-2] Tuned 4-pole preselectors type, typically with motorised air-variable capacitors and air-wound inductors to avoid saturation IMD, have been used in RN shipboard HF installations for yonks, long before the advent of DSP! – See the image HARRIS RF-551A

FTdx-5000 Series – The new Yaesu HF/50 MHz 200W Transceiver: FTdx-5000MP, FTdx-5000D, FTdx-5000 and the SM-5000 Station Monitor.
The Yaesu FT DX 5000 Series will be formally introduced by Yaesu very soon. Pricing and availability is currently unknown (www.radiocronache…23.11.2009)

!!! FTdx-5000 by Yaesu Broshure: 14 MHz band 2kHz offset 105 dB 3rd-IMD, IP3 +36 dBm, way better than the Elecraft K3 @ 102 dB IP3 +26 dBm!

The FTdx-5000 (Main Receiver only) includes a rather traditional 1st IF 9 MHz (Elecraft K3 1st IF 8,215 MHz) and provides for selectable roofing filters (6-pole crystal) at the first IF to limit the off-frequency signals getting into the receiver.
Note that the roofing filter’s job is only to protect the rest of the receiver, and that the operating bandwidth filtering is performed by the IF DSP (like Elecraft K3 Transceiver).
