AO8GTC Event Station for the coming-out of the Gran Telescopio Canarias. By Radio Club EA8RCP

AO8GTC – The big day is getting closer and everything is ready for the coming-out of the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC – La Palma Is. Canarias Lon.: 17º52’34’’ W | Lat.: 28º45’34’’ N). The formal presentation to society already has a date: on 24th July, the inauguration will take place. The amateur radio of Santa Cruz de La Palma (EA8RCP Club) will trigger the Special event station AO8GTC, on days 25 and 26 July, 2009.

AO8GTC – El gran día se acerca y todo está preparado para la puesta de largo del Gran Telescopio Canarias (La Palma, Islas Canarias). La presentación formal en sociedad ya tiene fecha: el próximo 24 de julio tendrá lugar su inauguración. Con motivo de la inauguración del GTC el próximo día 24 de julio estaremos con el indicativo AO8GTC desde el mismo pié del observatorio los días 25 y 26 de julio.

AO8GTC – Il gran giorno si avvicina! L’inaugurazione ufficiale del Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTG) avrà luogo il 24 luglio 2009 ed in occasione di questo evento i radioamatori della Sezione di Santa Cruz de La Palma (EA8RCP) sulle Isole Canarie (Lon.: 17º52’34’’ W | Lat.: 28º45’34’’ N), attiveranno lo speciale nominativo radio AO8GTC dalla sede dell’osservatorio nei giorni 25 e 26 luglio. Le attività radio sono previste su tutte le  bande e modi d’emissione per radioamatori.

This Club is seriously involved in emergency and public-service communications in partnership with your regional Emergency Management Office (EMO): North Shore Emergency Management Office. VA7OJ, Adam ha elaborato una bella presentazione delle attività del Team ARI-RE Perugia nell’emergenza terremoto della Provincia de  L’Aquila di due mesi fà (April 06, 2009 at 03:32:39 AM local time) -  Ringrazio molto il mio amico Adam per l’interessante realizzazione!

La presentazione in formato PDF è stata fatta  per il suo Club Radioamatori della Costa Nord di Vancouver, che fa parte della RAC Radio Amateurs of Canada. Il Club NSARC è da tempo attivo per le comunicazioni di pubblico servizio e di emergenza in collaborazione con il loro Centro Operativo Regionale per le Emergenze (COM!): North Shore Emergency Management Office. Una struttura operativa di Protezione Civile per la Città e per i distretti del territorio del Nord  e dell’Est Vancouver.

The quake struck at 0330 (0130 GMT) close to L’Aquila city, 85km (55 miles) north-east of Rome. At least 298 people have been killed and 1,500 injured, in a powerful earthquake that struck central Italy, Italian officials say.

This may be between emergency sites and the Emergency Operations  Centre, in neighbourhoods, schools, ESS Reception Centres and as otherwise necessary.

COTA Award 2009 (5th). (Carabinieri On The Air, 195° anniversary of Carabinieri Force foundation. The special call II0CC was active 20-40 and 80 meters  SSB, CW and DIG on days May 23rd and 24th , 2009 from ARI Perugia. This contact allow 8 points for 5° Diploma COTA 2009, which ends June 20.  In the headquarters of Agello (Pg), the team has collected 741 QSOs!

Diploma COTA 2009 (V°). La stazione speciale II0CC è stata attiva in 20-40-80 metri  SSB, CW e DIG nei giorni 23 e 24 Maggio 2009 dalla sezione ARI di Perugia. La Stazione è valida 8 punti per il 5° Diploma COTA 2009 che termina il 20 giugno. II0CC opearata dal team Ari Perugia come sopra. Durante l’attività fatta nella postazione operativa di Agello (Pg) sono stati effettuati ben 741 QSO!

ICOM UK sponsor the G6PZ team: two IC-7700, IOTA 2008 The G6PZ Claimed score. No PA failure!

IC-7700 PA failure?  Sono stati letti, con disappunto perchè questo non fa mai piacere, diversi post (es. I5IHE, I1xx/Dae, VK5EME, DL7USA, LA5EKA, HBxxx, HByyy, F6EFM, NA5Q e KE4WY) che hanno parlato di  guasti allo stadio PA; Come si vedrà più sotto (*) Icom, certamente, sta cercando di capire direttamente sul campo! cosa “noi” siamo capaci di fare realmente con i loro apparati, in modo da ridurre al minimo i rischi e migliorare così i loro prodotti. Allo stato delle notizie non si può assolutamente dire che questo sia un problema reale, anche perchè solo Icom con i centri di assistenza potrà rilevare le cause e valutare il numero dei casi di guasto degli MRF150 o di altro,  in rapporto al numero totale di apparati già venduti globalmente. Sarebbe anche interessante, per tranquillizzare,  se Icom emanasse un bollettino informativo con le specifiche tecniche e le eventuali soluzioni per questo.

“Bene questo weekend c’è il contest RSGB IOTA e saremo visitati dalla Icom UK (Regno Unito). Vogliono vedere il loro prodotto in azione “sulla brace!” per così dire. Questa opportunità è un grande feed back per il loro prodotti, dopo tutto i 7700 sono definiti the “contest radio”……..”

August 4th, 2008 by M0CLW : IOTA Contest 2008 Result: (G6PZ Team) Multi-op Fixed Island: Claimed score: 8,867,718 points!…. etc…. Icom UK visited us to see the contest group in action and both the IC-7800 and one of the IC-7700s worked flawlessly.

ENG:They were read some of the posts (I5IHE, I1xx/Dae, VK5EME, DL7USA, LA5EKA, HBxxx, HBxyy, F6EFM, NA5Q e KE4WY) concerning PA-Unit failures, with regret as its never a good outcome when this happens, but Icom are (*) really trying to understand what “we” do to their rigs in the real world so as to minimise this and improve on their products. It is difficult to say the incidence of PA failures in the IC-7700 (as apercentage of units in global….service), only the Icom service centres can determine this via an exhaustive examination in the course of repair. I am confident that Icom will issue a service bulletin informations to correct it.Interesting (*): G6PZ, Paul wrothe at 25.07.2008 on the IC7700-yahoogroups:
“Well it’s the RSGB IOTA contest this weekend and we are going to be visited by Icom UK. They want to see their product in action at “the coal face” so to speak. This is great product feed back for them, after all the 7700is a “contest radio ” ……..”
