The roofing filter and the Ceramic Filter is not a ultimate selectivity on the this tranceiver. The designer uses the DSP process to define the selectivity of the receiver for each supported emission type. The purpose of the 6kHz roofing  filter reduces the statistical likelihood that strong undesired signals well outside BPFs, to suppress images produced in the first mixer. The Ceramic Filter on the 2nd IF 455kHz to suppress images produced in the 2nd IF mixer will enter the IF chain and over-range the ADC Codec. As long as  the ADC is operating in its linear range, the DSP IF filter will do its job.IC-7200-manpack-styling

Design and architecture:

The RX signals are passed through one of 9 BPFs on the RF UNIT.  The BPF for 50 MHz band contains a separate Pre-amp to make up the loss for high sensitivity on this band. While the Main Pre-amp function is activated, the RX signals from the BPF are applied to the noiseless feedback AMP 2SC5551F. This Pre-amp provides low-noise, high RF gain and good IP characteristic. The amplified or not RX signals are entered to the MAIN UNIT, then applied on the 1st mixer 2SK1740 x4 junction FETs. A quad-structured 1st mixer circuit, provides high enough intercept point. RX signals are mixed with the 1st LO signals from the 1st LO AMP 2SC3357 to be converted into the 64.455 MHz 1st IF signal. The 1st IF signal is filtered by the 6kHz Roofing Filter (FI541 – FL421) to remove the RX frequency signal and 1st LO signals, and amplified by the 1st IF AMP 3SK264. The amplified 1st IF signal is applied to the 2nd duble balanced mixer HSB88WS to converted into the 455 kHz 2nd IF signal.
The 2nd IF signal is filtered by Ceramic Filter CFWS455HT (FI601) and amplified by 3SK264 x2 IF AMP and 2SC4081 BUFF, then applied to the 3rd mixer TS5A2053. – The converted 15.625 kHz 3rd IF signal are entered to the ADSP-BF532SBSTZ400 on the DSP section, passed through the (ADC/DAC) Codec AK4620B. – Digital IF DSP for: Twin PBT, Noise Reduction, Manual Notch, Automatic Notch, NB etc.

ENG: IC-7600 the flagship’s linage, eliminate the 455 kHz IF stage and third mixer, with their attendant risks of spurs, additional phase noise and IMD degrade. IC-7600 employs a double conversion superheterodyne system, which has an image rejection mixer (SDR I/Q mixer type) for the 2nd mixer stage improve inband IMD.
[Note] SDR I/Q mixer: The filtered 1st RX IF signal is amplified by two 1st IF AMPs, then splitted into two before being applied to the 2nd mixe, as a image rejection. Each divided signal RX IF signal is mixed with 2nd LO signals to be converted into the 36 kHz 2nd RX IF. One of the LO signal is 90 degrees phase shifted before being applied to the 2nd mixer, and the converted 2nd mixer IF is 90 degrees phase shifted too. – I (Inphase) Q (Quadrature) signals are buffer and amplified by 2nd IF AMP. Then the 2nd RX IF signals whose phase shifter, then composed by the composer. The composed RX IF signal is amplified, then entered by the A/D converter to the DSP Unit. –
TMS320C6726BRFP, 266MHz clock , 1600MFLOPS!
It is most interesting that the new Transceiver Rohde & Schwarz® 4100 HF radio family also employs this architecture. The R&S® M3SR Series 4100 employs a double conversion superheterodyne system, combines the unmatched dynamic range of radios with analog mixers with the latest in digital IF and audio signal processing. The second IF frequency of 48 kHz is sampled (IC-7600 has 2nd IF 36 kHz, IC-R-9500 has 48 kHz), digitized and processed using DSP digital signal  processors.

Built-in a high-quality DSP-based Baudot RTTY modulator /demodulator and direct PC keyboard connection capability for RTTY and PSK operations without a PC. RTTY operation can be performed without an external RTTY terminal, TNC or PC. Pre-set characters can be sent using the RTTY memory. The contents of the RTTY memory/received signal can be saved into the USB-Memory. Two data formats, Text and HTML, are available for PC data storage.
Built-in a high-quality DSP-based PSK encoder /decoder is built-in to the IC-7600. When connecting a PC keyboard, BPSK (Binary Phase Shift Keying) and QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) modes are available for PSK. The transmission contents can be typed before being transmitted. The contents of the PSK memory/received signal canbe saved into the USB-Memory.
[Note]: When a PC keyboard is connected to [USB] connector on the front panel, the RTTY/PSK/CW memory contentst nad the file name can also be edited from the keyboard. In this case, a USB hub is required.

PBT Operation

Twin PBT® operation: in SSB/CW/RTTY/PSK/AM the PBT (Passband Tuning) electronically narrows the IF passband width by shifting the IF frequency slightly outside of the IF filter passband to reject interference. The IC-7600 uses DSP for the PBT function. Moving both [TWIN-PBT] controls to the same position shifts the IF both above and below the received frequency.
DSP filter shape (Soft/Sharp): The type of DSP filter shape for each SSB, SSBD (data) and CW can be selected independently from soft and sharp. IC-7600 DSP use the TMS320C6726BRFP at 266MHz.
Roofing filter selection: The IC-7600 has 3, 6 and 15 kHz roofing filters at the 1st IF frequency. The roofing filter provides interference reduction from nearby strong signals.

LCD-display Large LCD with LED backlight multi-function Display. High resolution spectrum scope screen, several times to select the scope span: ±2.5, ±5.0, ±10, ±25, ±50, ±100 and ±250 kHz are available. This DSP-based spectrum scope allows you to display the frequency and relative signal strength  of received signals on the strengths of signals. The IC- 7600 has two modes for the spectrum display – one is center mode, and the other is fixed mode. In addition, the IC-7600 has a mini scope screen to save screen space.

Dualwatch operation. Dualwatch monitors 2 frequencies with the same mode simultaneously. During dualwatch, both frequencies should be on the same band, because the bandpass filter in the RF circuit is selected for the main readout frequency.

dualwatch

Push [MAIN/SUB] to enables the sub band access when changing the frequency to Main dial, etc. in sub band.
Adjust the [BAL] control to set a suitable audio signal strength balance between the main and sub readout frequencies. S-meter shows the combined signal strength. The dualwatch function is convenient for tuning the transmit frequency while monitoring both frequencies used for transmitting and receiving. Split frequency operation allows you to transmit and receive in the same mode on two different frequencies, on the main and sub readouts.

USB Rear connector. [USB] (Universal Serial Bus – B type) Connect a USB cable to be used for the modulation input, the transceiver operation with PC, the received audio and the decoded character import to the PC. Icom HP (http://www.icom.co.jp/world/support/index.html) gives the USB driver and the installation guide download service.
Sets the input modulation level of the [USB] connector from 0% to 100%  in 1% steps on the Level set mode. The received audio output level from [USB], cannot be adjusted with the [AF] control.

R&S® M3SR Series 4100 SDR HF Radio Family – Analog mixers and digital IF and audio signal processing

12/01/2009

m3sr-4100

Rohde & Schwarz M3SR® Series 4100 of HF radios represents a new, innovative and versatile generation of software defined radios (SDR).

ENG:
The R&S® M3SR Series 4100 combines the unmatched dynamic range of radios with analog mixers with the latest in digital IF and audio signal processing. The second IF frequency of 48 kHz is sampled, digitized and processed using digital ignal processors. This means that a wide range of IF bandwidths is available in all modes with high selectivity and optimized for voice and data communications. Digital signal processing also provides functions for noise suppression. The individual radio lines can be occupied by any of the waveforms supported by the R&S®M3SR Series 4100   including:
Voice (SSB, AM, FM) – Radio teletype (RATT) – Modem (STANAG 4285, STANAG 4539) – Automatic link establishment (ALE-2G/3G) – Tactical data links(Link-11, Link-22)

ENG: The R&S® FK4120/FK4140 digitally tuned HF selectors are optional plug-in modules for the radios of the R&S®M3SR Series 4100. They increase the selectivity of the transmit and receive paths. Receiver parameters such as 2nd and 3rd order intercept, IF rejection, image-frequency rejection and crossmodulation immunity are significantly improved. In the transmit direction, the TX phase noise is suppressed to produce typical values as low as –165 dBc/Hz.
- Five-circuit lowpass filter (0 Hz to 1.5 MHz) for receive frequencies below 1.5 MHz
- Digitally tuned tracking bandpass filters (1.5 MHz to 30 MHz) with 20 dB or 40 dB edge steepness at 10 % frequency offset. – (for Ham radio See the DIGI-SEL  Icom or VRF+uTune Yesu + the ATU Units)

IC-7700: Icom Japan have released the latest firmware V1.04 on Dec 11, 2008

dsp-unit
IC-7700 New Firmware Update – Icom Japan have released the latest firmware V1.04 on Dec 11, 2008.

Link to: ICOM.co.jp – World Support official web page

ENG:  Major points of update from Ver.1.03 to Ver.1.04: Improvements in the software performance for the DSP UNIT
Noted a very subtle improvement in
[NR] operation. The NR seems to track voice peaks a little faster and attenuate highs
somewhat less than in ver. 1.03.
Noted now listen to AM BBC WS on SSB/ECSS during the day during non DX time and hear it without the previous annoying distortion, as the audio no created loud transients of high notes. – - -

IC-7700 RF UNIT, 2nd Mixer as a image rejection. Circuit Description

26/10/2008

IC-7700 RF UNIT, 2nd Mixer as a image rejection, Circuit Description. Note the large toroidal coils, BPF bank

Link to: Adam, VA7OJ’s IC-7700 User Review web page

ENG:
The converted 1st RX IF signal is then filtered bay one of 1st IF Roofing Filters (3-6-15 kHz).
The filtered 1st IF signal is splitted into two before being applied to the 2nd Mixers, as a image rejection Mixer. Each divided 1st IF signal is mixed with 2nd LO signals from the PLL UNIT, to be converted into the 36kHz 2nd RX IF signal. One of the LO signal is 90 degrees phase-shifted before being applied to 2nd Mixer (9A41-G), and the converted 2nd RX IF is 90 degrees phase-shifted too.
These converted 2nd IF signals whose phase is different each other are phase-shifted by the phase shifter, then composed by the composer (NJM074M). The composed 2nd IF signal is amplified by another 2nd IF AMP, then entered to the ADC (AK5394) to be converted into the 24-bit serial data. The serial data is applied to the DSP (TMS320C6727) on the MAIN UNIT

La produzione del transceiver PT-8000 è stata interrotta; The manufacture of the PT-8000 product line has been discontinued

24/07/2008

ENG: (by forum Hilberling) The manufacture of the PT-8000 product line has been discontinued.
Due to the constant obstacles which we must overcome in ensuring compliance with EU-wide governmental regulations imposed on manufacturers, we were required to make constant design changes to this top-quality transceiver. The very high design goals which we had set for the PT-8000 could be fulfilled in a few prototype units. However, guaranteeing this high standard without limitations in a series production program with many vendors runs into difficulties which cannot be overcome at a cost level which is still acceptable. We are most grateful for the great interest shown in us whilst this project was underway

ENG: Major points of update from Ver.2.11to Ver.2.12: “Improved software performance for the DSP Unit“
NEVER turn off the power from the back without shutting down the radio first (front button). These radios should be run off a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply); Never cut off power supply while updating firmware! Before starting the download, please read through “Section  (UPDATING THE FIRMWARE)” of the IC-7800’s instruction manual.
NB: there are actually two versions of the IC-7800 manual on theirwebsite, and which version you get appears to be related to whether you usethe search facility or follow their links. The older version has a code on the bottom of the page which reads A-6328H-1EX-4-1. What I assume to be the newer version has the code A-6328H-1EX-8-1, but unfortunately it is still dated 16/10/2007.
