L’FTdx-5000 richiede l’installazione di ben quattro differenti software (più uno Opzionale per il DMU-2000) ciscuno da caricare singolarmente o in seguenza uno dall’altro con procedure, descritte sulle istruzioni di VS-Yaesu che possono certamente apparire non semplici!
Infatti ogni firmware va aperto separatamente con un Programma utility a ciascuno dedicato, da attivare ogni volta sul Computer dopo averli scaricati e soggetti anche essi ad aggiornamento.
Per la scrittura poi sul FTdx-5000 vanno pressati due tasti, diversi per ciascun tipo di software (vedi diagramma e colori), in modo da indirizzarlo alla relativa locazione o settore. Alla fine di ciascun caricamento va spento il Transceiver con il bottone ON/OFF posto sul pannello frontale (No con quello generale posteriore che va spento alla fine) Il cavo RS232 dal PC alla presa CAT è unico con la commutazione dei PGN Switch sul retro del FTdx-5000 e del SM-5000 (option) collegati tra loro con i relativi cavi in dotazione.
Ogni procedura di aggiornamento deve essere eseguita con molta attenzione. !!NOTA: l’installazione errata dei vari tipi software, destinati ciascuno ad una specifica funzione, può causare difficoltà e non riconoscimento del programma.

Le ultime versioni di firmware sono elencate distinte per tipo, qui sopra (in English), con le relative date di uscita tratte dal sito ufficiale di Vertex Standard US.
NOTA: Le versioni del software  possono apparire per 5 secondi sui diversi Display pressando i tasti [GEN]＋[50]＋[ENT] e poi accendendo in ON il Transceiver.

The DSP IF filter shape factor (-6/-60 dB). This is the ratio of the -60 dB bandwidth to the -6 dB bandwidth, which is a figure of merit for the filter’s adjacent-channel’s rejection. The lower the shape factor, the “tighter” the filter. – The two type of DSP filter shape factor for each SSB, SSB-Data and CW can be selected independently from soft and sharp.
A sharp profile with a flat passband and soft profile with a more rounded passband (Twin Passband Tuning [TWIN-PBT] is also easily provided, which enables the filter sides to be both indipendently moved and narrowed, the DSP also provides audio filtering and shaping functions). Depending on  the operating situation, for example handling a pile-up or receiving a very weak signal, you can flexibly change sharp and soft filter shapes or reduce or shift the filter width, even while receiving a signal, by a simple push of a front panel key. CAUTION:  NEVER turn the transceiver power OFF while updating the firmware!
You can turn the transceiver power OFF only when the transceiver displays that rebooting is required. If you turn the transceiver power OFF, or if a power failure occurs during updating, the transceiver firmware will be corrupted and you will have to send the transceiver back to the nearest Icom distributor for repair.

Il fattore di forma del filtro IF DSP (-6/-60 dB). Questo “shape factor” è il rapporto tra la larghezza di banda a -60 dB e la larghezza di banda a -6 dB del filtro impostato, che determina la qualità di merito della reiezione del filtro stesso. Infatti più basso sarà il fattore di forma, più ripidi saranno i fianchi del filtro. – I due tipi del fattore di forma: linea morbida o tagliente del filtro DSP possono essere selezionati in modo indipendente per ciascun modo operativo SSB, SSB-Data e CW.
Si potrà usare un profilo tagliente (sharp) con una banda passante piatta oppure un profilo morbido (soft) con una banda passante più arrotondata ( E’ anche previsto il noto Twin Passband Tuning – [TWIN-PBT ] operando solo su due manopole concentriche, che consentono di spostare a piacere sia il centro del filtro sia la sua larghezza di banda in maniera flessibile e indipendente, poi lo stesso DSP fornisce anche il filtraggio audio e la sua sagomatura). A seconda della situazione di funzionamento, per esempio la gestione di un pile-up o la ricezione di un segnale molto debole, è possibile semplicemente impegare un  filtro tagliente (sharp) o uno morbido (soft), ovvero spostare o variare l’ampiezza del filtro IF, anche durante la ricezione del segnale, con una semplice pressione di tasti  ecomandi sul pannello frontale —- (Senza le selezioni multiple e sequenziali! passo-passo).

ATTENZIONE:  NON spegnere il ricetrasmettitore durante l’aggiornamento del firmware!
È possibile spegnere in OFF solo quando il display del transceiver visualizza che il riavvio è necessario. Se si spegne il transceiver, o se si verifica la mancanza di alimentazione durante l’aggiornamento, il firmware del ricetrasmettitore sarà danneggiato e si dovrà inviare l’apparato al distributore Icom per la riparazione

This procedure is used to update the flash programming for the DMU-2000.

[Note] The output of the monitor demod is fed into the main receiver audio amplifier, whose gain is controlled by the AF Gain control. The AF Gain pot is the “master fader”. All Icom transceivers equipped with a monitor circuit are configured in this way……

The IC-7700 firmware upgrade. There is a full instructions of the Updating on p. 16-2 to 16-9 of the User Manual (Section 16 Updating  The Firmware), Two methods of firmware update are available: one uses the USB-Memory (USB port  and Memory Drive is required), and the other uses a PC (Ethernet cable is required and IP address) – The USB-Memory must have been formatted by the IC-7700 transceiver (FAT/FAT32 formats).
The general rule with FAT vs. FAT32 is this: If your computer has FAT32 capability, use that. Otherwise, use FAT. – There is a full description of the USB memory formatting procedure on p. 12-26 of the User Manual (Section 12 Set Mode – Formatting the USB-Memory)

[Note] Never cut off power to the transceiver while updating the firmware!
I have a sneaky feeling that interrupting the update process can corrupt the boot-loader (See the Note) For safety’s sake, plug the 7700 into the computer UPS (750 VA) when upgrading (UPS = Uninterruptible Power Supply)  However i belive that any thorough design would must have a boot-loader in a protected sector of the flash of  course so that it couldn’t be erased under normal software update circumstances.
ICOM issued a clarification stating that the firmware updates are in fact cumulative. When you install 1.10 it include the updated previus features
As recommended by Icom, first save your custom settings to USB memory. Upgrading to F/W version 1.10 results in a  *full reset* of the IC-7700

[Note] Non togliere alimentazione al transceiver durante l’aggiornamento del firmware!
Si dice che potrebbe essere dannosa una interruzione del processo di aggiornamento perchè può corrompere il boot-loader. Quindi, per motivi di sicurezza, durante il processo di aggiornamento con il computer è opportuno alimentare il transceive collegandolo alla rete elettrica tramite un UPS da 750 VA minimo (UPS = Gruppo Statico di Continuità)
Credo tuttavia che qualsiasi progettazione accurata deve avere un boot-loader in un settore separato della flash-memory in uso, in modo che essa non dovrebbe essere cancellata durante le normali fasi di aggiornamento del software.
ICOM ha rilasciato un chiarimento che, gli aggiornamenti del firmware sono in effetti cumulativi. Quando si installa la 1,10 si include gli aggiornamenti rilasciati in precedenza
Come raccomandato dal Icom, prima salvare le impostazioni personalizzate in una memoria USB. L’aggiornamento del F/W versione 1,10 comporta anche il *reset completo* del IC-7700

Maggiori miglioramenti della Ver. 2.20 (ITALIANO)
La Icom ha aggiunto interessanti funzionalità nella gestione delle memorie in TX sia in RTTY che PSK31 con l’utilizzo di 4 tasti nella tastiera esterna. Altrettanto per l’abilitazione  di messaggi TX pre memorizzati sia in VOCE memory   in SSB che CW memory in cw,  con  l’utilizzo dei tasti F1 – F4 della tastiera esterna.  Consente all’operatore di gestire o no personalizzando limiti di banda predefiniti che  sono poi segnalati da un bip audio.  Per la sola versione Italiana: la capacità di estensione della banda 40m da 7  a 7.200 MHz.

Major points of the Ver.2.20 update. (ENG)
1. Adds the ability to send TX memory contents, while operating in either the RTTY mode, or the PSK31 mode, pushing one of the 4 keys on an external keypad. (More details of the external keypad are described on page 2-6 of IC-7800 instruction manual.)
2. Adds the ability to send VOICE memory, in the SSB mode, or CW memory keyer contents, in the CW mode, by pushing one of the F1 – F4 keys on an external USB keyboard.
3. Enables the operator to program custom band-edge frequencies. You can also hear a beep when tuning out of, or into the programmed Amateur band. The operator can now limit transmitting outside the programmed frequency band.
4. The transmit capability on the 7MHz band has been extended from 7.0-7.1MHz to 7.0-7.2MHz. The RX frequency range has also been extended. (The modification applies to only Italian version.)

FTdx-9000 PEP – HF 50MHz Transceiver (Cosidetta (aka) Versione Mark 2)
A partire dal 20 novembre 2008, la V/S Yasu USA ha rilasciato il  programma PEP-9000 per la valorizzazione dei suoi apparati FTdx-9000 series.  Il servizio di aggiornamento compresi i racambi, per gli utenti americani,  è tutto a spese di Vertex Standard fino al 31 Dic. 2009 –  Ciò include un nuovo firmware ed una consistente sostituzione/modifica di molte Boards: CNTL-UNIT, TX-UNIT, DSP-UNIT, SCP-UNIT, RX-1-UNIT, RX-2-UNIT (per i Mod D/MP) ed anche il Power Meter che nel nuovo ha scala W output  in log. per migliori indicazioni.

Da fine Gennaio 09  la procedura per la sostituzione delle varie Boards,  per implementare  il PEP  program, inizia anche per gli  Utenti Europei nel centro di assistenza costituito presso la  Yesu UK Ltd – (non più in Olanda!) (per clienti ICAL Spa Italy vedi Link più sopra)

Si conferma che  questa procedura di aggiornamento con un’altra Ver. CPU 0513 del 02.04.2009  (02 April, 2009) può essere utilizzata alle seguenti condizioni:
• Deve esserci il logo PEP9000 attaccato al di sotto dell’etichetta del Numero di Serie. (Apparati già ristrutturati con le nuove schede o di nuova produzione con Ver.PEP!!)

ENG: After 20 Nov, 2008, Yaesu USA released its PEP-9000 enhance ment program for all FTdx-9000 radios.

This includes new firmware and replacement /modification of many many Boards: CNTL-UNIT, TX-UNIT, DSP-UNIT, SCP-UNIT, RX-1-UNIT, RX-2-UNIT (D/MP version), Power Meters, with new ones that have the log scale on them to permit easier reading between 0 to 100 watts.  Vertex Standard will provide all parts and labor for the Enhancements at our expense. The radio updated with PEP9000 already provided many improvements.

From the 1st Jan, 2009 is started the PEP-2000 Version  from the FT-2000 /2000D, the whole radio can be redefined only by software!…. Major points of update from Ver.1.00 to Ver.1.01
* The performance of the [GENE.] key is improved – (KEYPAD: the key [GENE.] selects the general RX coverage band) – This update improves the performance of the [GENE.] key when it is pushed during stand-by or receiving mode and applies to the export versions with serial numbers beginning with “09“. It is possible to install into other  versions, but you cannot see any difference.

*Le funzioni del tasto [GENE.] sono migliorate – (Nella TASTIERA: il tasto [GENE.] seleziona l’RX  in copertura generale e il . per scrivere la freqenza) Questo aggiornamento migliora le prestazioni del Tasto [GENE.] quando fosse spinto durante lo stand-by oppure durante la ricezione. NB: Le bande di frequenza di Ricezione o Trasmissione dipendono dalle  versioni del IC-7600 perchè l’apparato opera su bande non armonizzate ed è soggetto alla Licenza di utilizzo in vigore nel paese di impiego. Dalle informazioni Icom, la Versione #09 risponde alle norme  non armonizzate del Ministero delle  Telecomunicazioni in vigore in Italia. Come altre Versioni sono prodotte separatamente per le specifiche in vigore  in  altri paesi UE – #04: Germania e Inghilterra, #05: Spagna, #10: Francia,  #02 USA ecc. , rispetto agli altri numerosi paesi UE che invece hanno specifiche di legge simili. #03. Il ricetrasmettitore HF 50MHz IC-7600, risponde comunque all’omologazione generale “CE”  come da Directive n. 1999/5/EC.
NB: In U.S.A.  riporterà la FCC ID Code,  In JP il Code JAIA, queste diverse  omologazioni NON sono valide in Europa! (Attenzione )

Un nuovo Firmware Ver. 1.04 per l’IC-7700 è stato rilasciato dalla Icom Japan Global Support  ieri 11 Dicembre 2008.

La Icom dichiara che qusta nuova release apporta miglioramenti nel software che gestisce le performance nel DSP-Unit.  Le prime impressioni fanno osservare un miglioramento molto fine nel funzionamento [ NR] che ora sembra tracciare i picchi in modo un po ‘più veloce e attenuare un po’ meno i toni alti rispetto all  ver. 1.03 – Altra segnalazione riguarda  migliore comprensione durante la ricezione di BCC -SW in AM ascoltati in modo SSB/ECSS per rilevare segnali DX deboli, ora meno soggetti a distorsione da Qrn.

ENG:  Major points of update from Ver.1.03 to Ver.1.04: Improvements in the software performance for the DSP UNIT
Noted a very subtle improvement in [NR] operation. The NR seems to track voice peaks a little faster and attenuate highs somewhat less than in ver. 1.03.
Noted now listen to AM BBC WS on SSB/ECSS during the day during non DX time and hear it without the previous annoying distortion, as the audio no created loud transients of high notes. – - -  (Credit: Icom.co.jp/world/ Support)
