FDM-DUO a new SDR rtx made in Italy – ELAD has displayed his “little SDR Tranceiver” at Ham Radio Friedrichshafen 2013. Quite interesting concept to have a stand alone QRP rig at 192kHz sampling, combined with an extended SDR if you use it with a Computer.


It is a Direct Sampling SDR receviver (is an RF Sampler) with a DDC on a FPGA, and a Cortex ARM DSP module for filtering and demodulation in stand-alone mode. In RX and TX directions it is a fully SDR technology. QRP trasmitter 5 W Output Power – CAT Control via USB-2 port dedicated.  (please click image to enlarge)

FDM-DUO_rtx-Elad-2013In other words: you can take it with you as a self-sustained 192kHz SDR narrow band modes QRP tranceiver (Sideband/CW/AM). –
At home, attached to a faster CPU (computer with FDM-SW1 software o so), you can run it at its full bandwidth of 6144kHz sample rate and use wider bandwidth RX/TX modes, inc. DSB, AM Sync, FM, RTTY, DRM, WB FM+RDS.

WiNRADiO introducing its new SDR EXCALIBUR “Ultra” (beta version)

FLEX-6700 on the Air at N6V – IDXC April 2013 (report by K6TU)


Sempre K6TU, Stu Phillips racconta le prime esperienze già fatte con il Flex-6700 durante l’attività di N6V (Speciale Event Station) attivata alla 64th IDXC 2013 (International DX Convention is held every April in Visalia, California US). Come si può leggere dal link più sotto Stu ha scritto un interessante articolo che, vista la lunga attesa per questo nuovo SDR Flex, può essere  interessante leggere dato che è scritto da pochi giorni per un ragguardevole “assetto” che si può vedere anche dalla foto qui sopra! // ……very grateful to the following folks who helped me put on N6V in 2011 and 2013.

italianoAd oggi le notizie dicono che la produzione è in corso e il software è in fase di test. Flex Radio ha diversi “beta-tester” che proveranno i nuovi Transceiver SDR. Molto impegno degli ingegneri sviluppatori è anche per il modulo “panadapter” che ora è stato molto implementato rispetto al progetto iniziale. – Tutte le funzioni di elaborazione dei segnali e di calcolo per il DSP sono tutte entrocontenute nella serie Flex-6000, contrariamente a quanto avveniva o avviene in altri modelli (come il Flex-5000 etc.) che utilizzano la potenza di calcolo ed elaborazione data sopratutto dal Computer esterno. La nuova serie funziona in “THIN Client”, con Computer anche semplici o via rete Ethernet.


Unlike PowerSDR (es. KAT500 Auto-Tuner & Smart Antenna Switch – (Source Elecraft ®)

The new KAT500 uses the same topology and performance tuning algorithms as the 100W autotuner in the K3. Typical matching range at 500 W is up to 10:1 on most bands.

Frequency Typical Matching Range and Power Limit:
1.8 — 2MHz 600W into 10 to 500 Ohms (5:1 Low Impedance, 10:1 High Impedance SWR) / 3 — 30 MHz 600W into 5 to 500 Ohms (10:1 SWR) / 1000W into 16 to 150 Ohms (3:1 SWR ) / 1000W into 16 to 150 Ohms (3:1 SWR ) and  30 — 60MHz 500W into 5:1 SWR (10 to 250 Ohms)

The TS-990S with SP-990 speaker! The Waterfall function displayed at HAM RADIO DE 2012

The TS-990S and SP-990 Speaker! – TS-990 prototype with Waterfall function will be displayed as a reference exhibit at HAM RADIO 2012 in Friedrichshafen (June 22-24). Update !! See the new pictures of the TS990’s line, the latest info reports, Video and link below.

Interessante come sempre la Fiera di Friedrichshafen 2012 anche se alcune note ditte erano assenti, compresa la ACOM. La WoodBoxRadio con il nuovo Stand presentava novità made in Italy, come FDM-S1 e l’atteso Software Studio1.

Nello Stand Kenwood con il prototipo del TS-990, Michael Bruck ha mostrato in alcune occasioni le funzionalità del Transceiver HF/50MHz, compresa la modalità Waterfall nel Main Display TFT. Sul pannello posteriore (coperto invece a Dayton!) si notava l’uscita per un Monitor/Display e un Jack per una Keypad !

The AD company introduce soon the innovative dinamic antennas products to the marketplace. – The decision was made to determine market viability by participating in the 2012 HAM RADIO trade show in Friedrichshafen De, the largest convention of its kind in the Europe.

The AD-Motor system, powered by a  NEMA 23 stepper motor, can control the element lengths, a long boom is not needed to achieve near optimum gain and front to back ratios on every frequency between 7 MHZ and 50 MHz. – The Stepper-Motor NEMA 23 has a torque 3 times stronger than of a stepper motor NEMA 17 commonly used in other dynamic antennas. – The AD-Motor Unit is a high precision mechanism made of special design and materials.

The adoption of a drive shaft bound by a bering bracket with the slide plate of the elements tapes, who eliminates any tape of oscillation making a precise engagement of the beryllium tape in the motor teeth shaft !
Another great addition is an exclusive contact between the element tape and feed line, we chose Teflon material (most slippery.. opposed to system with slat!), the electric contact between the parts is assured by a calibrated spring which acts to push the element type against one great copper beryllium plate.

The AD-Controller which is directly connected into your computer, driving you controlling all elements lenght, looking on the screen in real time the effective forward power, swr and operative frequency. CAT control included for all HF rigs, allowing great grafphic interface to take control with just one click of all functions.

The FUNcube-1 micro-satellite (CubeSat standard size) will carry a UHF to VHF linear transponder that will have approx 500mW PEP output and which can be used by Radio Amateurs worldwide for SSB and CW communications. –

AMSAT-UK  is working on this new amateur satellite project: FUNcube-1 is a complete educational single CubeSat project with the goal of enthusing and educating young people about radio, space, physics and electronics, will be launched with a number of other spacecraft from a DNEPR rocket sometime in the third quarter of 2012.

FunSDR Software (in development) – The new software FunSDR which is working I2PHD, Alberto is (probably..) expected soon!  – A few days ago was released the GUI Ver.1.0 beta 1- (note the nixie counter, very fine… like a vintage style) – Features are tailored to operation on VHF, UHF and Microwave  frequencies with the FUNcube Dongle SDR Raceiver range.

As is known, I2PHD, is a genius in developing the software! Japan Earthquake 8.9 and Tsunami! Prayers for all people in Japan, God bless them!! –  (Clik the photo and thumbnails to enlarge)
Both ICOM, Kenwood and Vertex Standard have issued statements concerning the affect of the earthquake on their factories.

It appears Icom’s facilities at Osaka and Wakayama are in the south of the country and Kenwood’s primary office facilities in Yokohama and Hachioji are to the south and west of the quake’s epicentre. Kenwood’s primary manufacturing facility is located in Malaysia. The production of Yaesu Amateur Radio equipment at Vertex Standard’s factory in Fukushima, Japan, has been temporarily halted due to earthquake damage. It is understood the factory is just 60km from the quake-stricken nuclear reactors ! – See the Link below

Of course all radioamateurs will keeps the people of Japan in their thoughts and prayers during this time of extreme disaster. – Sad times for Japan, especially folks living near Sendai. The disaster area is in the north east, where the Tsunami hit the coastline and also the earthquake was closest to the epicenter.  In the most affected Northern Japan, main highways remain closed, strictly available for emergency aid vehicles.

Terremoto in Giappone 8.9 e Tsunami!  Naturalmente tutti i radioamatori non mancheranno di tenere il popolo giapponese nei loro pensieri e nelle preghiere in questo momento di disastro estremo. Tempi tristi per tutto il Giappone, soprattutto per la gente che vive vicino a Sendai. La zona del disastro si trova a nord est, dove lo tsunami ha colpito lungo la costa ed il terremoto è stato più violento essendo più vicina all’epicentro.

The Video output jack on the rear panel allows you to view a magnified display on an external monitor.Note: 3.5(d) mm monaural cable is required for connection.One of the menus allows you to change display characteristics such as brightness and contrast.


The rear panel VIDEO jack mentioned earlier is an analog video output. For grins I plugged it into the composite video inputon my TV, and the IC-7000’s display immediately filled the screen. While this might be useful for a presentation, you’re morelikely to hook up one of those small video screens made for portable DVD players or automobile entertainment systems and GPS on Car.

Il jack di uscita video sul pannello posteriore permette di vedere una visualizzazione ingrandita su un monitor esterno. – [Nota]: Un cavo mono con Jack da 3.5 mm è richiesto per la connessione. Uno dei menu permette di modificare le caratteristiche di visualizzazione, come luminosità e contrasto.
La presa VIDEO sul pannello posteriore, citato sopra, è una uscita video analogica. Per provare è stato collegato all’ingresso video composito del televisore e il Display del IC-7000 immediatamente ha riempito lo schermo.  Anche se questo potrebbe essere usato per una presentazione! invece è molto più utile per collegare uno di quei piccoli schermi video fatto per lettori DVD portatili o sistemi di intrattenimento dell’automobile, compreso lo schermo del GPS con ingresso dedicato.
