IC-7600 the successor to the IC-756 Pro III; Icom displayed the new Transceiver at the Tokyo Hamfair 2008

 
IC-7600 presentato a sorpresa da Icom Inc. alla Ham Fair di Tokyo 2008 il 23 e 24 Agosto (on the Big Sight!)
IC-7600 è un transceiver classe 13.8V, 100W HF/50MHz , utilizza la più recente tecnologia IF-DSP sviluppata dalla Icom, i comandi sul pannello sono come nel Pro3, ma sono disposti diversamente, il Tune/Moni e NR/NB sono sovrapposti e le manopole AF/RF e BAL/NR sono in verticale.  Lavora in Split con il VFO A/B e XFC oppure in Split con capacità di Doppio ascolto “DW” come nel Pro3, ma con Roofing IF con BW selezionabile da pannello (il DW non compreso nel IC-7700).
Il ricevitore sarà molto probabilmente ottimo, con basso rumore tratto dalla tecnologia sviluppata per l’IC-7700 che è stato apprezzato da molti operatori. Comprende diverse funzioni oramai molto popolari che non tutte si trovano ancora disponibli (senza uso di accessori esterni o più manopole) sia nel K3 sia nel FT-2000, ad esempio: Un affidabile analizzatore di spettro, con Span da 5kHz a 500kHz con un ampio Diaplay TFT multifunzioni, identico al IC-7700 e al 7800 per M-S-T, mini scope ecc., Doppia Ricezione con il Dual-Watch e con Roofing Filters in IF selezionabili, RTTY/PSK Encoder e Decoder incorporato, APF/TBF (Twin Bandpass Filter for Digital mode) una  porta USB sul pannello frontale (x mini drive USB, Tastiera, o altri utilizzi), una singola porta USB sul retro (Controllo Remoto dell’apparato con standard C-IV, con in più compresi i segnali audio Rx-out/ Tx-imput per comunicazioni audio o digitali con software da PC), Connettori sull’antenna RX-OUT e RX-IN per l’uso di accessori esterni (preselettore, ecc), Connettore per il controllo di un altro ATU opzionale esterno. Se il prezzo sarà buono, (si parla di 450.000 Yen) si pensa che si  venderà bene, proprio come in questi anni è successo per il 756 Pro III che dovrà sostituire. Voci che circolano dicono che questo transceiver potrebbe entrare in produzione nei primi mesi del 2009 e lanciato a Maggio alla Hamvention di Dayton.

ENG. IC-7600 is a 13.8V, 100W-class HF/50MHz transceiver, utlizing last Icom’s IF-DSP tecnology, Split feature with VFO/XFC or Dual-Watch capabily (unlike the IC-7700)
The receiver is very probably quite good enough for many people and it has a few popular features which are not yet available in the K3 or FT-2000, e.g. The built in spectrum scope (Span 5kHz to 500kHz on large multifunction Display TFT, identical to IC-7700/7800 M-S-T function), Dual Watch with IF Roofing Filters selectable, RTTY/PSK31 Encode/decode,  APF/TBF (Twin Bandpass Filter for Digital), USB port on front panel(USB miny-drive/keyboard, TBD),  Single USB port on rear (Rig Remote Control with C-IV standard and audio signals Rx-out/Tx-imput), Separate RX-OUT and RX-IN antenna ports allowing connection of external accessory, control for an external ATU. If the price is good, I expect is will sell well, just like the 756 Pro III it replaces. The speculation is that this rig will go into production in early 2009 and launched in May at Dayton HamVention.

A fine Dicembre 2007 l’IC-911 era stato approvato in Jappone dalla JARD (certificazione simile alla FCC per gli USA) e poi non si erano avute altre notizie. Attesa lunga di molti, ma nessuna novità operativa,  si tratta in sostanza di miglioramenti sulla linea produttiva apportati anche per  adeguamenti costruttivi dovuti all’impiego di nuovi materiali di più recente produzione, dati i numerosi anni di vita del prodotto.

Interessante la riprogettazione dello stadio PA per VHF che ora utilizza due moderni MosFet RD70HVF1 al posto dei vecchi Transistor 2 x SC5152, e del Drive che impiega un RD70HVF1 al posto del glorioso SRFJ7044, oltre a implementazioni di altre parti nei vari circuiti.
Da quanto è dato conoscere, il prodotto è destinato al  mercato domestico Japponese con la nuova sigla IC-911 20W e IC-911D 50W. La Icom in base alle normative lì in vigore ha dovuto sottoporre alla ricertificazione  JARD con cambio di sigla per le modifiche. Per il mercato Europeo, ad esempio, la Icom Europa ha già ripresentato la Certificazione per la Direttiva 1999/5/UE il 17.07.2007 evidentemente perchè l’apparato IC-910H ha subito già gli stessi adeguamenti? Icom ha provveduto anche  al rilascio del Manuale, nuova Versione A-5699H.1EX-9 in Inglese, il 22.02.2008.

IC-7700 PA failure?  Sono stati letti, con disappunto perchè questo non fa mai piacere, diversi post (es. I5IHE, I1xx/Dae, VK5EME, DL7USA, LA5EKA, HBxxx, HByyy, F6EFM, NA5Q e KE4WY) che hanno parlato di  guasti allo stadio PA; Come si vedrà più sotto (*) Icom, certamente, sta cercando di capire direttamente sul campo! cosa “noi” siamo capaci di fare realmente con i loro apparati, in modo da ridurre al minimo i rischi e migliorare così i loro prodotti. Allo stato delle notizie non si può assolutamente dire che questo sia un problema reale, anche perchè solo Icom con i centri di assistenza potrà rilevare le cause e valutare il numero dei casi di guasto degli MRF150 o di altro,  in rapporto al numero totale di apparati già venduti globalmente. Sarebbe anche interessante, per tranquillizzare,  se Icom emanasse un bollettino informativo con le specifiche tecniche e le eventuali soluzioni per questo.

August 4th, 2008 by M0CLW : IOTA Contest 2008 Result: (G6PZ Team) Multi-op Fixed Island: Claimed score: 8,867,718 points!…. etc…. Icom UK visited us to see the contest group in action and both the IC-7800 and one of the IC-7700s worked flawlessly.

ENG:They were read some of the posts (I5IHE, I1xx/Dae, VK5EME, DL7USA, LA5EKA, HBxxx, HBxyy, F6EFM, NA5Q e KE4WY) concerning PA-Unit failures, with regret as its never a good outcome when this happens, but Icom are (*) really trying to understand what “we” do to their rigs in the real world so as to minimise this and improve on their products. It is difficult to say the incidence of PA failures in the IC-7700 (as apercentage of units in global….service), only the Icom service centres can determine this via an exhaustive examination in the course of repair. I am confident that Icom will issue a service bulletin informations to correct it.Interesting (*): G6PZ, Paul wrothe at 25.07.2008 on the IC7700-yahoogroups:
“Well it’s the RSGB IOTA contest this weekend and we are going to be visited by Icom UK. They want to see their product in action at “the coal face” so to speak. This is great product feed back for them, after all the 7700is a “contest radio ” ……..”

IC-7700: Firmware Updates new version, Ver.1.03, 02.07.2008 released

Major points of update from Ver.1.02 to Ver.1.03: ” Improvements in the TX monitor audio“  The old FW (1.02) caused a great deal of background noise in the monitor audio and an AGC  characteristic that was difficult to listen to in the monitor audio.

Note: I would remind  that the update file must be placed in the “7700″ dir on the USB memory stick if the stick has been formatted in FAT32 by the 7700 previously, you can also format it on a PC, but it must be FAT32. To reboot turn off the front switch. NEVER turn off the power from the back without shutting down the radio first (front button). These radios should be run off a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) Never cut off power supply while updating firmware! Before starting the download, please read through “Section 16 (UPDATING THE FIRMWARE)” of the IC-7700’s instruction manual. Please save the transceiver data content to an USB memory before starting the firmware update; If you want to update the firmware via LAN, please also download this Firmware update utility: 7700FirmUtl_v100.zip;

“The IC-7700 is without doubt a most impressive radio. Its performance, its features and its ergonomics place it high in the top league. As a general purpose and contest radio it is excellent, but for serious DXing with split frequency operation the lack of a second channel receive capability or dual-watch is a major shortcoming, particularly with a price tag around 4,000 UK Pounds. It all depends where your interests lie as to which features are most important”.

ENG: Well IC7700 doubly was packed up by the box largely and arrived at the pad. The photograph it is the box of the substance which is removed from the big first box, but being rather heavy, while the older brother of the home delivery calling manner manner, it carried. In fact, it is heavy truly, is!

L’apparato IC-7700 arriva con doppio e robusto imballo, nella foto si vede la 2^ scatola dopo aver tolto l’imballo princiapale, e trasportato in casa con l’aiuto del fratello maggiore, perchè la sostanza del contenuto è pesante!!
