1) Full Screen spectrum scope display on the TFT Display
• Viene aggiunta una funzione a schermo pieno del campo di applicazione dell’analisi di Spettro sul Main Display TFT.
• Lo “schermo intero” viene memorizzato premendo il tasto “SELECT” per più di un secondo.(! ogni volta che si memorizza, il precedente contenuto viene sovrascritto e sostituito)
2) Split-Operation – change the TX  temporarily MAIN DIAL or RX [CLAR/VFO-B]
• Durante il funzionamento in “SPLIT” la frequenza TX può essere regolata temporaneamente con il MAIN DIAL, tenendo però pressato il tasto [TXW].
Altrettanto in questo modo la frequenza RX varierà girando però la manopola [CLAR/VFO-B] !! Setting of the TX/RX for SPLIT operation: accendere ON  [POWER] mentre si tiene pressato il tasto [SPLIT] per attivare questo modo di settaggio  con la variazione temporanea in Operazioni Split ….!! e… viceversa!

!! Si sta procedendo ad aggiornare solo 2 dei 4 firmware incorporati, con differenti software utility (Trasfer..) e 4 files a differenti  estensioni (SLF – dat – bin etc), nel Transceiver (Yaesu utilizza ancora qui il sistema  “multiple software systems installations”! rispetto alla Icom e Kenwood che usano, invece, un software a sistema unico di sviluppo). Quindi ignorare i passaggi ripetitivi (spegni, collega cavi, accendi, carica 1, ripristina e poi ancora, etc. etc.) previsti per il DSP e per la FFT (att. diverso da TFT!!) [..alla fine si rimane senza dita da pigiare contemporaneamente hi!!]

[Note] La funzione schermo intero richiede l’installazione delle Ver. xxxx_V0114.SFL ( MAIN CPU) e Ver. xxxxx_V01-07_xxxxx.bin (software x TFT). Per il funzionamento e le caratteristiche di cui sopra, si prega di fare riferimento ai fogli aggiuntivi per le nuove funzioni Spectrum & per VFO SPLIT a cura di YAESU MUSEN CO.,LTD & Yaesu-USA #EH046H500 (!! n. 2 pagine .pdf incluse nella stessa cartella (.zip) FTDX3000_Update_July1)

[Note] There are four different Software installations (Yaesu still uses the multiple software systems installations! on the FTdx-3000, Icom and Kenwood instead use a unified software environment) – Each one must be followed carefully. – Installing the wrong type software may cause difficulties.
!! You are only doing the Main-CPU and TFT updates. You are NOT doing the DSP or FFT updates, just ignore those instructions at this time on the Upgrade Manual & FTdx3000 Additional useful functions sheet (n. 2 pages pdf  included in the same zip folder … FTDX3000_Update_July1 (.zip))

[Note] The rig has to be started in different ways for each of these two updates to work!  The Yaesu “Firmware Upgrade Manual” has the update procedure for all of the Firmware-Modules & extention type (MAIN .SFL – DSP .dat – TFT .bin – FFT .dat), and for all Trasfer-Softwares (!! TFT-Display_VFO-A-B-statusFTdx-1200 intuitive operability with the new Display & Panel layouts. The VFO-A & VFO-B frequency and status are displayed only on the main TFT Display. The trasmit and receive status, and the “basic” VFO-a, VFO-B settings and FAST or LOCK settings are displayed in the high contrast display above the Main Dial (dial using machined aluminium parts with torque adjistment).
The Band Scope can be switched to FULL-screen display by simply pressing the Scope key, and spectrum can be viewed on the Full TFT Color screen! – Now the most important  meters amd frequency examination, are displayed in central view!

The newly developed VCO frequency division format is used for the 1st local oscillator of the main receiver.

TS-990S 200W Trasmitter – The push-pull circuit utilizes VRF150MP 50V power MOSFETs to deliver a stable output of 200W on all bands. Engineers have determined the bias and matching conditions that ensure maximum possible benefit from the characteristics of the VRF150MP.
Built-in automatic antenna tuner (ATU) is of the preset type and employs the relay approch, acclaimed for rapid operation. Cooling system capable of providing ample airflow to each unit. The TS-990 employs five independent variable-speed fans (.. Receiver performance is one of the key indicators that is used to evaluate a transceiver.  And, above all, the capability to protect against interference from adjacent signals close to the target signal is of the utmost importance. On the TS-990S thre RF filter systems protect the early stages of the main receiver from overload caused by strong out-of band signals (RF BPF – Pre Selector combine and five Roofing Filters after the 1st mix) – The Preselector is a variable bandpass filter that can be inserted or not after a series of fixed bandpass filters.

IC-7700_external-monitorL’attuale Rev. #12/#13 incorpora la nuova versione del PA-UNIT e moduli LPF, inoltre diversi altri moduli del transceiver sono “up-rev.” rispetto alle versioni precedenti. – Ora tutti gli IC-7700’s con un “1” nella prima cifra del S/N (numero di serie) hanno il nuovo PA-UNIT e i moduli LPF.

The current Rev. #12/#13 version incorporates the new PA-UNIT and LPF modules, and in addition several other modules are also “up-rev.” from the earlier version.

The IC-7700 uses a STAC2942 power amplifier in common source push-pull configuration (common source). The power amplifier provides a eliable 200W of output power up to 54MHz. – The STAC2942B is a gold metallized N-channel MOS field-effect RF power transistor. It is intended for use in 50 V DC large signal applications up to 250 MHz (ST datasheet)

[Rumors] It is said that the manufacturer of the MRF-150 used in the 7700’s series PA Unit, has recently discontinued this supply. This event has probably brought Icom to design a new PA Unit based on  the new DMOS STAC2942 ©STMicroelectronics parts.

Come verificare la Versione del Firmware nell’IC-9100 e IC-7410: vedere comandi riportati più sopra; –  I dati identificativi dell’ultima Versione E1 rilascita da ICOM Inc. solo per l’IC-9100,  ove già installata a bordo oppure  dopo aver fatto l’aggiornamento, apparirano sulla parte bassa del Display con una serie di valori (vedere più sopra) – [Nota] Per l’IC-7410 non risultano ancora aggiornamenti ad oggi – (NB: Informarsi tramite tutte le news ufficiali di Icom!)

Con il Test NPR Adam, dimostra che il generatore di rumore bianco immette un segnale a banda larga che carica tutti gli stati del ricevitore, il Front-end, i Filtri e l’eventuale Preselettore, simulando la risposta alla ricezione di multi-segnali del DUT (come in realtà succede collegandovi un’antenna). – Il rumore bianco viene rimosso alla frequenza sintonizzata del ricevitore da un adatto filtro notch, inserito in serie. – A causa della distorsione dei circuiti del ricevitore (DUT imput), questa tacca (notch) tende a riempirsi con prodotti di intermodulazione, i cui effetti verranno oppurtunamente misurati in uscita (DUT output).

These are for Reciprocal Mixing Dynamic Range (RMDR), with measurements at 20 and 2 kHz spacing. …….omissis …….. Reciprocal mixing is noise generated in a superheterodyne receiver when noise from the local oscillator (LO) mixes with strong, adjacent signals.

RS-BA1® Remote control system (QST… Now for the Really Cool Stuff )

An RS-BA1® remote control system consists of at least one PC, which is used as a Base station (Server) and at least one PC, which is used as a Remote station (Client). Both PCs have to be connected with a network and VAC. The Icom USB driver must be installed.

The FLEX-6000 Signature Series radios employ a Direct Sampling receiver architecture while the FLEX-Series radios (FLEX-5000, FLEX-3000, FLEX-1500) are Direct Conversion receiver and the RF signal is presented to a QSD – Quadrature Sampling Detector  a balanced mixer of sorts. – QSD receivers are only limited by the bandwidth of the audio ADC’s and balance issues in the detector.

By comparison, the FLEX-6000 Signature Series takes the conversion of RF to digital to a new level – Direct Sampling. Using  high bandwidth ADCs, the entire HF spectrum from 10kHz to 77MHz is sampled at the same time (plus 135MHz-165MHz in the FLEX-6700).
In the FLEX-6000, the Spectral Capture Unit (SCU) performs this function in real time delivering the digitized RF spectrum to the radio’s Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) for additional processing. –

[Note] Inside the SCU are three main functions: filtering, level control and digitization. The Flex-6500 Flex-6700 packs more built-in digital signal process power than ever before imagined in an amateur radio transceiver – The Xilinx® Virtex®-6 FPGA works in tandem with a Texas Instruments® DaVinci® Digital Media Processor that includes a 1.4 GHz (1.2 GHz on FLEX-6500) ARM Cortex®-A8 CPU with NEON® floating point coprocessor!

On the FLEX-6000’s the SCU’s job is to take the off-air signal from an antenna jack on the radio and convert it into the best digital signal possible. – The input to each SCU is one of the many antenna or receiver connectors on the radio. Coming out of the SCU is an incredible volume of digital data  3.93 Gbps for each SCU. – Just for comparison purposes, this data would fill forty of your typical 100Mbps Ethernet cables (LAN).

The TS-990S with SP-990 speaker! The Waterfall function displayed at HAM RADIO DE 2012

The TS-990S and SP-990 Speaker! – TS-990 prototype with Waterfall function will be displayed as a reference exhibit at HAM RADIO 2012 in Friedrichshafen (June 22-24). Update !! See the new pictures of the TS990’s line, the latest info reports, Video and link below.

Interessante come sempre la Fiera di Friedrichshafen 2012 anche se alcune note ditte erano assenti, compresa la ACOM. La WoodBoxRadio con il nuovo Stand presentava novità made in Italy, come FDM-S1 e l’atteso Software Studio1.

Nello Stand Kenwood con il prototipo del TS-990, Michael Bruck ha mostrato in alcune occasioni le funzionalità del Transceiver HF/50MHz, compresa la modalità Waterfall nel Main Display TFT. Sul pannello posteriore (coperto invece a Dayton!) si notava l’uscita per un Monitor/Display e un Jack per una Keypad !
