Dynamic range (blocking, IMD and Reciprocal Mixing, related to Local Oscillator noise*) is a major limitation of receiver performance. It’s significant for amateurs who operate in contests, DX pileups, or others environments in which there are many strong nearby signal. – The Reciprocal Mixing Dynamic Range* (RMDR) is noise generated in a superheterodyne receiver when noise from the local oscillator (LO) mixes with strong, adjacent signals.

italianoLo FTdx-1200 condivide l’aspetto esterno e le dimensioni del fratello-cugino FTdx-3000 che però utilizza la down-conversion in IF.  L’FTdx-1200 ha una diversa architettura per il circuito del ricevitore con la up-conversion in IF. - Come evidenziano anche i test di QST e di VA7OJ, Adam l’FTdx-3000 presenta numeri più performanti, l’FTdx-1200 ottiene valori riscontrabili, sia nel FT-950 che in  molti altri ricetrasmettitori recenti di costo medio basso. Quindi si può dire che si presenta con buone prestazioni, ma non fino ai livelli del ’3000 o del ’5000 dello stesso produttore! -

Il FTdx -1200 con il suo Display a colori da 4,3″ TFT offre una analisi di spettro che opera in una modalità intermittente. Cioè, automaticamente e in modo veloce (300 ms) sottrae una frazione al ricevitore e fa la scansione (sweep), bloccando l’audio del ricevitore. – Tra le veloci scansioni , mostra l’ultimo “snapshot” prelevato nell’intervallo settato (in due modi Select or Auto mode). –  Se si acquista la scheda opzionale FFT-1, la portata dello spettro può anche funzionare come un oscilloscopio per osservare attentamente sia il segnale audio ricevuto, sia il segnale audio trasmesso con il dominio del tempo in frequenza (cascata = waterfall) (AF FFT Audio Frequency Fast Fourier Transform). L’Unità TFT-1 permette anche la decodifica e codifica interna di RTTY, PSK31 ed anche CW (telegrafia) con messaggi visualizzati sul Display TFT e memorie. (ed altro!)

SCU-17_USB-Interface-2Per l’utilizzo dei nuovi computer dotati di sole Porte USB, invece dei vecchi connettori seriali (RS-232), Yaesu offre in vendita la “SCU-17 USB Inteface Unit”.

Oltre a fare da adattatore Seriale/USB-2, semplifica le operazioni radio in modo Dati e RTTY con l’audio In/Out e CAT control via porta USB-2 e però servono cavi adattatori vari per i collegamenti.

[Note] There are four different Software installations (Yaesu still uses the multiple software systems installations! on the FTdx-3000, Icom and Kenwood instead use a unified software environment) - Each one must be followed carefully. – Installing the wrong type software may cause difficulties. !! You are only doing the Main-CPU and TFT updates.
[Note] The rig has to be started in different ways for each of these two updates to work!  The Yaesu “Firmware Upgrade Manual” has the update procedure for all of the Firmware-Modules & extention type (MAIN .SFL – DSP .dat – TFT .bin – FFT .dat), and for all Trasfer-Softwares (!! 1) Full Screen spectrum scope display on the TFT Display
• Viene aggiunta una funzione a schermo pieno del campo di applicazione dell’analisi di Spettro sul Main Display TFT.
• Lo “schermo intero” viene memorizzato premendo il tasto “SELECT” per più di un secondo.(! ogni volta che si memorizza, il precedente contenuto viene sovrascritto e sostituito)
2) Split-Operation – change the TX  temporarily MAIN DIAL or RX [CLAR/VFO-B]
• Durante il funzionamento in “SPLIT” la frequenza TX può essere regolata temporaneamente con il MAIN DIAL, tenendo però pressato il tasto [TXW].
Altrettanto in questo modo la frequenza RX varierà girando però la manopola [CLAR/VFO-B] !! Setting of the TX/RX for SPLIT operation: accendere ON  [POWER] mentre si tiene pressato il tasto [SPLIT] per attivare questo modo di settaggio  con la variazione temporanea in Operazioni Split ….!! e… viceversa!

!! Si sta procedendo ad aggiornare solo 2 dei 4 firmware incorporati, con differenti software utility (Trasfer..) e 4 files a differenti  estensioni (SLF – dat – bin etc), nel Transceiver (Yaesu utilizza ancora qui il sistema  “multiple software systems installations”! rispetto alla Icom e Kenwood che usano, invece, un software a sistema unico di sviluppo). Quindi ignorare i passaggi ripetitivi (spegni, collega cavi, accendi, carica 1, ripristina e poi ancora, etc. etc.) previsti per il DSP e per la FFT (att. diverso da TFT!!) [..alla fine si rimane senza dita da pigiare contemporaneamente hi!!]

[Note] La funzione schermo intero richiede l’installazione delle Ver. xxxx_V0114.SFL ( MAIN CPU) e Ver. xxxxx_V01-07_xxxxx.bin (software x TFT). Per il funzionamento e le caratteristiche di cui sopra, si prega di fare riferimento ai fogli aggiuntivi per le nuove funzioni Spectrum & per VFO SPLIT a cura di YAESU MUSEN CO.,LTD & Yaesu-USA #EH046H500 (!! n. 2 pagine .pdf incluse nella stessa cartella (.zip) FTDX3000_Update_July1)

Sempre K6TU, Stu Phillips racconta le prime esperienze già fatte con il Flex-6700 durante l’attività di N6V (Speciale Event Station) attivata alla 64th IDXC 2013 (International DX Convention is held every April in Visalia, California US). Come si può leggere dal link più sotto Stu ha scritto un interessante articolo che, vista la lunga attesa per questo nuovo SDR Flex, può essere  interessante leggere dato che è scritto da pochi giorni per un ragguardevole “assetto” che si può vedere anche dalla foto qui sopra! // ……very grateful to the following folks who helped me put on N6V in 2011 and 2013.

I’ve used every major brand of radio in the 40 years……  the FlexRadio System Flex-6700 evaluated as the best receiver K6TU has used in 40 years of amateur and professional experience regardless of the tranceiver costs!
………….. The filters perform!  You can pull signals out of a busy band that are really weak – even when parked next to a very strong station….

italianoAd oggi le notizie dicono che la produzione è in corso e il software è in fase di test. Flex Radio ha diversi “beta-tester” che proveranno i nuovi Transceiver SDR. Molto impegno degli ingegneri sviluppatori è anche per il modulo “panadapter” che ora è stato molto implementato rispetto al progetto iniziale. – Tutte le funzioni di elaborazione dei segnali e di calcolo per il DSP sono tutte entrocontenute nella serie Flex-6000, contrariamente a quanto avveniva o avviene in altri modelli (come il Flex-5000 etc.) che utilizzano la potenza di calcolo ed elaborazione data sopratutto dal Computer esterno. La nuova serie funziona in “THIN Client”, con Computer anche semplici o via rete Ethernet.

STAMPFL mini swRX and swRX - Two analog Shortwave Receivers with Touchscreen – The STAMPFL Receiver is still in its experimental stadium …. and is not, comparable to a DSP KWZ-30, Reuter or Perseus receiver - STAMPFL Morse keys was founded by Heinz Stampfl HB9KOC in 2005 and is now the first Swiss manufacturer of Morse keys .
An Assembly kit for the near future is in planing - The technology used is analog (exception of the TFT Display and DDS) with IF 10.7 MHz e 455kHz. - MODULATION, SPAN and ATT can be selected using the touchscreen display.

italiano I due ricevitori HF swRX’s della  STAMPFL Svizzera, sono di tipo analogico (con esclusione del Display TFT e del DDS) con IF a 10.7 MHz e 455 kHz, sono dotati in ingresso di Preselettore con toroidi T-50 e poi di Filtro a quarzo in 1st IF . Non sono comparabili con ricevitori più blasonati tipo KWZ-30 DSP oppure Perseus SDR.
Questi STAMPFL swRX e mini swRX sono attualmente in fase sperimentale (vedere link al sito web), essi hanno suscitato un certo interesse nel suo complesso per il tipo di filosofia del progetto, che dovrebbe portare anche alla fornitura in Kit. – Qui sotto il Modello swRX più grande, però anche esso sempre in fase sperimentale!

Find it behind the Kenwood TS-590S because close spaced DR was “only” 82 dB and Phase Noise limited (LO Noise dBc/Hz). I wonder if Yaesu will change their advertising claims? – [Note] Rob Sherwood has an excellent laboratory, but expect certainly also QST’s test results – (The QST’s measurement process differs from the Sherwood Labs approach)!

The Spectrum Scope has two modes: the auto mode monitors, and sweeps the band continually ! – Bandwidth of the spectrum scope may be set to any of six different spans: 20kHz, 50kHz, 100kHz, 200kHz, 500kHz, or 1MHz., and may operate in either Center or Fixed mode (like IC- 78 -77 -76-transceivers). The FTdx3000 also has an AF-FFT (Audio Frequency Fast Fourier Trasform) scope built-in (adgiusting the RX IF filter and the TX audio…) - Spectrum Scope Memory: 
The Spectrum Scope screen can be stored or recalled with one touch. Simultaneously the time information is recorded in the memory, so that the difference in activity may be reviewed and compared !

In the FTdx-3000D “Down Conversion” receiver construction is used. The  first IF frequency is 9 MHz. This makes possible narrow bandwidth crystal roofing filters (300 Hz ( optional), 600 Hz or 3 kHz) with a sharp shape factor that creates amazing multi-signal receiving performance.

I4TUD, Tosi Davide un radioamatore coi fiocchi! Nel bel paese di Copparo a due passi da Ferrara c’è sempre un via vai di apparati radio che hanno bisogno di soccorso tecnico e spesso, se non si tratta del “corriere” si incontrano vari radioamatori che con ansia si avvicinano (spesso si riesce solo sino all’uscio..!) per riferire i guai sopraggiunti inaspettati e vorrebbero assistere agli interventi..!
