The newly designed 9 MHz 1st IF Mixer using MOS FETs have low losses by themselves so than is required at the RF amp, for the Main RF Front End (RX-1 VFO A) – A 15 BPF (8 x Amateur Radio band + 7 x General Coverange Receiver) are  inserted between the VRF UNIT -1 and the IPO/RF amp stage, automatically selected. –

L’FTdx-5000 richiede l’installazione di ben quattro differenti software (più uno Opzionale per il DMU-2000) ciscuno da caricare singolarmente o in seguenza uno dall’altro con procedure, descritte sulle istruzioni di VS-Yaesu che possono certamente apparire non semplici!
Infatti ogni firmware va aperto separatamente con un Programma utility a ciascuno dedicato, da attivare ogni volta sul Computer dopo averli scaricati e soggetti anche essi ad aggiornamento.
Per la scrittura poi sul FTdx-5000 vanno pressati due tasti, diversi per ciascun tipo di software (vedi diagramma e colori), in modo da indirizzarlo alla relativa locazione o settore. Alla fine di ciascun caricamento va spento il Transceiver con il bottone ON/OFF posto sul pannello frontale (No con quello generale posteriore che va spento alla fine) Il cavo RS232 dal PC alla presa CAT è unico con la commutazione dei PGN Switch sul retro del FTdx-5000 e del SM-5000 (option) collegati tra loro con i relativi cavi in dotazione.
Ogni procedura di aggiornamento deve essere eseguita con molta attenzione. !!NOTA: l’installazione errata dei vari tipi software, destinati ciascuno ad una specifica funzione, può causare difficoltà e non riconoscimento del programma.

Le ultime versioni di firmware sono elencate distinte per tipo, qui sopra (in English), con le relative date di uscita tratte dal sito ufficiale di Vertex Standard US.
NOTA: Le versioni del software  possono apparire per 5 secondi sui diversi Display pressando i tasti [GEN]＋[50]＋[ENT] e poi accendendo in ON il Transceiver.

FTM-350R Bug Fixed ———————!

On February 19th, 2010 Yaesu V/S announced a firmware upgrade to address an anomaly in the NAVIgation feature of the FTM-350R. New transceivers shipped after this date should already have this update, but buyers should still double-check before carrying one out the door!
Il 19 febbraio, 2010 Yaesu V/S ha annunciato un aggiornamento del firmware per risolvere un’anomalia nella funzione di NAVIgazione del FTM-350R. I nuovi ricetrasmettitori spediti dopo tale data hanno questo aggiornamento fatto in fabbrica, comunque gli acquirenti potrebbero sempre fare un attento controllo del tipo di produzione prima di uscire dal negozio!.

Existing Yaesu VX-8R series will be able to convert them to add the new features of the VX-8DR? – Perhaps it is actually NOT a simple software upgrade! (probably replacing it with a larger memory chip and a different processor and firmware!) – The European VX-8E will presumably need a different upgrade or not upgradable?
La vecchia versione del VX-8R potrà essere  convertita con l’aggiunta delle nuove caratteristiche del VX-8DR? – Forse in realtà NON si tratta di un semplice aggiornamento del software! While holding the three buttons [GEN]＋[50]＋[ENT] turn the radio on. The software versions will be displayed in the lower right of the VFO-A window (FTdx5000 version will be shown in the Center OLED display) for 5 seconds then the radio will start up in normal operation

DMU-2000 Update Software, Yaesu has released 2.25.2010 – (DMU-2000 aggiornamento software)
This procedure is used to update the flash programming for the DMU-2000.
V4.21 or V5.11 version software is ONLY needed when the DMU-2000 is used with the New FTdx5000.  – There is no change from V4.20 or V5.10 when used with the FT-2000/D or FT-950.

Come già trattato negli articoli precedenti, lo schema a blocchi qui pubblicato conferma che soltando l’RX principale (VFO A) si articola in due stadi IF  con la prima in down-conversione  a 9 MHz. – Quindi gli ingegneri Yaesu riutilizzano l’architettura a down-conversione, di vecchia memoria (..FTdx-500 FT-101) , solo per il Main RX (A,) con un filtraggio stretto in prima IF (Filtri a quarzo a 6 poli fino a 300Hz! di BP) in un separato Front-end per le Bande per Radioamatori, dichiarando di aver ottenuto una gamma dinamica (IMD3) veramente elevata – (Questo già  viene fatto sul K3 Elecraft e su Orion II Ten-Tec – entrambi US made!)

The Main RX (VFO A) is a two-stage down-conversion design 9 MHz first IF and 30kHz second IF . – Yaesu engineers take the down-conversion architecture with narrow ham-band filtering for superior close-in dynamic range. – (Like K3 Elecraft and Orion II Ten-Tec, see the [Note] below!)

The sub RX (VFO B) is not the same! It is a three stage Up-conversion design. The 40.455MHz first IF stage feature 3 roofing filter 15, 6, 3kHz. Each roofinf is a four-pole, monolithic crystal filter (like FT-2000, FT-950). This Sub RX uses a new subdisplay with two EL (Eltro Luminesense) to indicate Sub frequency, graphical wave and menu functions. One EL functions is dedicated at the Main RX.

[Note] Like Orion II IFs: Main Receiver IF1=9 MHz, IF2=455 kHz, IF3=14 kHz (IMD3 101 dB IP3 +24 dBm @ 5kHz) – The Sub Receiver is not the same! IF1=45 MHz, IF2=455 kHz, IF3=14 kHz (+5 dBm @ 20kHz.

!!! Main Receiver IMD3: I think the improvements on the front controlls features and changing the receiver from an up conversion design to a down conversion design would push the rig over the Flagship FTdx-9000 in performance!!

!!! Image Rejection: Not specified! – The FTdx-5000 could perhaps use the innovative 2nd IF I/Q image rejection mixer (See Q2053 RF2713 and Q2060 UPC4572G2), for the first time introduced by the small Yaesu FT-450 transceiver??…..  We expect everyone to find out!

The Yaesu “answer”… 14 MHz band, CW (500Hz BW), 2kHz offset 105 dB 3rd-orde dynamic range, IP3 +36 dBm, ….way better than the Elecraft K3 @ 103 dB IP3 +28 dBm (K3: qst jan-09)!
The New IF DSP features are powered by two 32-bit processors from Texas Instruments (TMS320C6727B) both running at 300 MHz. Each VFO A/B has its own DSP processor – Built-in Auto tuner – The Transceiver can be extended with optional DMU-2000 and Hi-Q µ-Tuning filters – The four position antenna selection – Built-in 240 VAC power supply – The FTDX5000 uses newly designed, extra sharp roofing filters for the Main receiver (VFO A only) and they are selectable between 300 Hz (optional on some versions), 600 Hz, 3 kHz, 6 kHz and 15 kHz. – The sub RX is not the same! It is a three stage up-conversion design.

!!! DB9 serial port instead of a USB jack. It is surprising that rigs today are still being made with serial ports and not USB ports! (No USB port? … an USB adapter is necessary)

In questo Transceiver, la Yaesu esce, all’improvviso, dai circuiti sviluppati con gli apparati FTdx-9000, 2000 e 950,  realizzando un nuovo progetto che prevede due ricevitori (Main A e Sub B) molto diversi tra loro anche come performance.
Infatti, il ricevotore principale (RX VFO A) impiega solo due stadi IF, però a down-conversione, la prima IF a 9 MHz e la seconda a 30kHz. – Gli Ingegneri Yaesu scelgono, quindi, l’architettura in down-conversione con un filtraggio a banda stretta sulle bande per radioamatori, al fine di ottenere una superiore gamma dinamica con forti segnali interferenti vicini – (Come già realizzato da Elecraft  sul K3 e ancor più simile a  Orion II progettato da tempo dalla Ten-Tec, si veda la [Nota] qui sotto!)

L’RX Secondario (VFO B) del 5000 ha una struttura diversa dal principale!  Impiega tre stadi IF  in Up-conversione. La prima IF a 40.455MHz utilizza per la protezione della catena IF n. 3 Roofing filter da 15, 6 e 3 kHz. I tre Roofing sono a quattro poli a cristalli  monolitici (come su FT-2000 e FT-950). Questo Sub-ricevitore utilizza, invece, per i controlli,  un nuovo sub-display con due indicatori EL (Eltro Luminesense) per indicare la frequenza Sub, la forma grafica e lefunzioni del menu. Un terzo indicatore sempre tipo EL e le sue funzioni, viene dedicato all’RX principale.
[Nota] Come principio la struttura appare molto simile all’Orion II, che però ha tre IF con questi Valori di IF: Main Receiver IF1=9 MHz, IF2=455 kHz, IF3=14 kHz (con IMD3 101 dB e un IP3 +24 dBm @ 5kHz di spaziatura) – Il Sub ricevitore, è anche qui completamente diverso!  ha una Up-conversione con IF1=45 MHz, IF2=455 kHz, IF3=14 kHz (e presenta valori inferiori con solo un +5 dBm @ 20kHz).

!!! Main Receiver IMD3: Si pensa che i miglioramenti ai controlli frontali e il cambio del progetto del Main ricevitore da una Up a una Down-conversione  e Filtri a quarzo a 6 poli con BW molto stretta, porta il nuovo FTdx-5000 ad essere molto superiore in performance rispetto al principale apparato della casa FTdx-9000 (Porta-bandiera!) pur in presenza, nel 5000, di due diversi ricevitori (da verificare!! le performance)
!!! Image Rejection: Non specificata – L’FTdx-5000 avendo solo due stadi IF, potrebbe forse usare l’innovativo circuito del Mixer di 2nd IF con segnali I/Q per una alta rejezione di immagine, (Vedasi Q2053 RF2713 and Q2060 UPC4572G2 sul circuito FT-450) ??

Il circuito Yaesu risulta complesso: duplicatore del segnale di 1st IF  (67.899 X 2 = 135.798 MHz  che Mixato con un LO a 135.750 MHz  produce 2 segnali out I/Q a  IF 24+24  kHz che verranno poi elaborati verso il DSP.  Questo sistema è stato già impiegato per la prima volta sul piccolo  Yaesu Mod.  FT-450??… Dobbiamo attendere tutti per scoprire se la Rejezione di immagine sarà risolta così o diversamente!
!!! DB9 per una Porta Seriale RS-232 invece che una Porta USB. Questo è sorprendente, perchè utilizzare ancora una RS-232 quando oramai gli apparati e i PC impiegano le porte USB-2. (Se non c’è una USB per i PC moderni è necessario l’uso di un USB adapter!)

!!! FTdx-5000 by Yaesu Broshure: 14 MHz band 2kHz offset 105 dB 3rd-IMD, IP3 +36 dBm, way better than the Elecraft K3 @ 102 dB IP3 +26 dBm!

The FTdx-5000 (Main Receiver only) includes a rather traditional 1st IF 9 MHz (Elecraft K3 1st IF 8,215 MHz) and provides for selectable roofing filters (6-pole crystal) at the first IF to limit the off-frequency signals getting into the receiver.
Note that the roofing filter’s job is only to protect the rest of the receiver, and that the operating bandwidth filtering is performed by the IF DSP (like Elecraft K3 Transceiver).

Il nuovo Yaesu FTM-350 GPS/APRS è una risposta al Kenwood TM-D710. L’FTM-350 della Standard sviluppa il progetto del FTM-10 con l’aggiunta di funzioni packet radio e capacità di GPS/APRS. Impiega un nuovo Display LCD di grandi dimensioni con cui Yaesu introduce un radicale cambiamento di stile! Questo nuovo Transceiver ricorda lo stile dei concorrenti Kenwood TM-D710 e dell’Icom IC-2820 compresa l’introduzione delle indicazioni delle funzione dei comandi sul bordo del display LCD.
